Glad heβs safe and sound
Speaking of water tubs, configured a 2 cake set up for a xl ziplock. Excited to give it a whirl soon.

The thought of not using perlite gives me great joy

Hi, I have about 8 cakes in an sgfc. Can I setup a water tub and just transfer the cakes to that? They have been sitting in there for over a week, with no pins and I was hoping switching to the water tub might be better than the sgfc. Thanks in advance!

I don't see why not. Water tub tek is superior IMO. Easy to dial in FAE.

Let me swell your head a bit so we can have 34% more faht πβοΈ also using (because i have hundreds for free) these ice bags utilizing your ziplocks as fc work. They have edges already crimped plus the awesome built in labels π―

KSSS on left and middle, Acadian Coast on right.
I started noticing fuzzy feet despite what should be enough FAE. Most of the pins formed along the top of the PF Tek jars which leads me to think, even with fanning and maximum FAE lid will allow without falling off, there is a build up of CO2. My fix for this was to drill some holes above the water line and below the rack line. Fingers crossed.

Reasonable. Everyone has a different environment and dialing in yours is a process. Hopefully you've nailed it, if not this is step one in the learning to do better process.
-------------------- If you've never grown mushrooms before, here's how you start. First, follow the Updated PF Tek, put 4 holes in jar lids not 1, and use a water tub! The next move is Shoebox Tek. After that you move onto grains, agar, monotubs. Agar is easy, just do it. Other useful links - Picture guide for how things should look and proper surface conditions guide Growing APE or PE? I'm pretty stoked to give this a go, I'll be birthing my first 2 cakes next week some time followed shortly by 6 more. I have a little battery desk fan (2in) I was thinking about firing up twice a day to help with FAE but I feel I should ask, will the fan be too much and dry out the cake too much or should I just mist more often and keep the air kicking?

Welcome It wouldn't hurt to have the fan in the room, but for sure don't point it at the tub.

I got a question, I just made my first water tub tek rig. And wondering if anyone tried putting an aquarium heater in the bottom with the water to keep the area at a constant temp? Maybe better then me running a space heater in the room off n on. Thought?? Thanks.

Total noob here, but I've found to need for FAE to be over emphasized in some of the reading I have done. I have successfully birthed cakes of two different mushroom strains (got 5 flushes from the first one!)in a water tub that stayed completely closed between spritzings except for having the side handles that lock hanging open. More than that and the cakes would get dry and not fruit. Definitely don't need a fan, or even to crack the lid.

Thanks for posting this. What type of shroom? It may matter.
I'm in the process of my first fruiting, a few days in with APE. I'm using a radiant oil heater in a small space to keep it 72-73f and it was drying the cakes out quick. I had to throw a humidifier in there on low to help compensate, and keep the inside of the tub nice and misted because the sitting water isn't enough IME and FWIW. Maybe I'll just keep the lid fully but lightly closed next time as you stated.
Gawd there's so much contradicting information on this forum, lol.
