Just wanted to endorse this tek (and thread) for a beginners FC. This is my second PF tek grow (I'd barely count the first as it was a near disaster). My little buddies are still mid-fruit but this tek has made me feel like an absolute boss so far - I learnt so much about pinning triggers and fruiting conditions here. Mateja's close-up photos and detailed descriptions were invaluable. Thank you!
Birthed and rolled:

Colonised (3 days):

Knotting (5 days) - great shot of surface moisture:

Pinning (6-8 days):

These are the kind of pinsets I've been drooling over for the past 4 weeks! Can't wait to see the fruits they produce.
A few notes. I am reiterating some points from the thread here but they are important:
- If you're unsure about the moisture level on the surface, shine a torch. I couldn't see the droplets until I did this.
- Don't expect to see droplets on the casing, only the myc
- When I sprayed, I gave it 2-3 pumps from a 2-3ft height
- I stopped spraying after day 3 when I realised it was unnecessary
- First time using coir casing but I like it a lot. It sticks well and I feel like it locks more moisture in than the verm. Plus, bonus nutrients, right?

I personally have been washing my coir well with screen because it's pretty dirty. Then I follow that link.

Also worth noting you (probably) don't need to hydrate a whole block for this - I just used a saw to cut off what I needed from the coir block Then adjust measurements accordingly!

I've also been seeing some success with this TEK. Trying to dial in my SGFC has been a huge time consuming pain in the butt, so I started moving towards this method. I do have a few questions, though:
As per the TEK, the cakes were being rolled in hydrated coir (following the Bucket TEK, I believe). However, others have also had success using vermiculite to roll. Would there be a big difference, however, in using coir (which is moist) versus using vermiculite (which is bone dry)? Should we be hydrating our vermiculite before rolling? Or would is be more beneficial to saturate it via a heavy spray before closing up the tub? I can't imagine that a nice moist casing versus a dry casing are giving equal results, but I'm a noob.

I think Mateja posted before saying he'd usually use verm for this tek but only had coir at the time. I think you'd just roll in verm as if you're using a SGFC - this is just an easier tek for creating the same microclimate as far as I can see. FYI I harvested three flushes with the coir casing with 9g dry yield per cake... it definitely rocks. Maybe someone with more experience will correct me

Yeah, this tek is definitely superior to using an SGFC, at least for me.
So, I went back and read through about half of Mateja's posts, and there is a point where he does mention rolling in "wet vermiculite", so this is quite a deviation from normal PF Tek operations.
Hopefully one day, Mateja will come back and make a few edits/updates to the original post, mentioning things like the use of wet vermiculite, rolling again after flush, etc.

Does this method fair well with fully colonized all in one bags as cakes?

Look up baggin with bosley for fruiting bags in monos. You want multiple bags to create enough moisture in the mono ideally.
Some people remove the bag and stick it in a martha.
It might work with some coir sprayed down heavy when put in fruiting conditions. Fahtster has some all in one bag teks that seem recent.or try it out and see if the water tub works.

Looks great. Thanks for posting. Question for you on Coir, please. I bought a bag of organic garden coir. I assume this is considered hydrated coir, as it says in the OP. But do I also need to pasteurize it before casing my cakes?

In the water tub tek, once the cakes are ready to fruit and you are cracking the lid some, do you recommend lighting the top as well with a grow light? Thanks.

I've never bought hydrated coir, I'd be a bit concerned about that. I prefer buying clean bricks and that bucket life.
The lid should always be cracked.
-------------------- If you've never grown mushrooms before, here's how you start. First, follow the Updated PF Tek, put 4 holes in jar lids not 1, and use a water tub! The next move is Shoebox Tek. After that you move onto grains, agar, monotubs. Agar is easy, just do it. Other useful links - Picture guide for how things should look and proper surface conditions guide Growing APE or PE? You might want to check the item description. A lot of garden coir comes inoculated with trich. Pasturizing will kill it. Maybe squeeze as much of the existing water out that you can, then bucket tek it

I successfully followed this tek for my first grow - using B+ spores on cakes with coir. I'm writing to express my thanks to the contributors to this thread. I read the entire thread before I began.
I'm also posting to provide some feedback for any first time growers in a cold environment. Early on in this thread a user asked if it would be possible to use this tek in combination with a fish tank heater. This suggestion was dismissed and the user was advised not to grow in the winter.
I'm in a very cold climate and I used the fish tank heater setup. I used the tub in a tub method of heating the bottom tub. The sides of the tubs wrapped in insulation. This worked. I then tried heating the top fruiting chamber only. The sides of the chamber were also wrapped in insulation. The fish tank heater in 3.5 inches of water and the cakes raised 1 cm above the water level. This also worked, the only issue is that it generates a lot of condensation on the lid. Each day I would lift and angle the lid so that the condensation ran off, back into the water below. The condensation droplets would presumably drop down under their own weight after a while, without this intervention.
I had the lid cracked slightly as per the tek. I had issues with fuzzy feet but it seemed like an reasonable crop. I also tried cakes to spawn. This took and extra 10 days or so.
