I had some extra supplies lying around and decided to give this method a whirl for the luls. I neglected the shit out of these and it worked quite well!

Do you guys replace your water in your water tubs?
Ever since I started using water tubs, I've just been dumping out a little water whenever it gets too high for the cakes. Now I'm wondering if having my cakes living next to stale water is a good idea

I would like to know more about this. I just made 24 cakes, but I didn't think they could fruit for a year?

They can't, the substrate and spawn can only provide nutrients until they are depleted which is most certainly not a year.

So just fill the bottom of he tub with about an inch of water and place the cakes on something so they are not in the water and fruit it? No holes in the container and fan each day? mist when dry?

No fanning, mist as needed, and I donβt know about a shoe box, but maybe if you dub tubbed it. Otherwise, yeah!

A water tub sounds unreasonably easy. Iβm picking up a big tub tomorrow for when my PF cakes are ready, hopefully next week. Im going to put them on a cookie rack held up by quart jars.
Do you not roll the bottom of the cake? Guide says sides and top.

I hope it works, let us know! Alternatively, you could put some hydrated coir at the bottom of the dub tub and do a humidity chamber style, or even use a big ziploc with some holes in it like Faht does.
And to smellyhobbit, I am not sure, but I coated my cakes all over with coir. I did get a few pins growing from the bottom, but not too many. I also tried it with vermiculite, but I think I preferred coir. Maybe Mateja will show up and drop some knowledge on us.

As long as itβs not actively detrimental to coir the whole thing Iβll just do it. People like verm too, but from what Iβve looked up the growers with the sexiest flushes are using coir for cakes. Good enough for me!

When you close the tub for ~2days is it in total darkness? Or will light not affect the rhizomes growing into the casing layer.

So some ambient light coming through the window will be alright I suppose. Once itβs time to fruit hit is with the light. I got a bulb thatβs 5000kelvin I couldnβt find anything with a higher kelvin.

The micro climate seems to evaporate fairly quickly. Should the cakes get a mist more than one time a day? Things have changed in ten years I remember misting and fanning two to three times a day. I think this is dead knowledge these days

If you're needing to mist daily, you have too much FAE. Fix the issue, not the symptom.

I disagree. I live in a dry climate with dialed in tubs and I have to mist at least twice a day. I think this would be a lot different if my humidity wasn't 0-5%.

You don't need as much FAE if your RH is that low because less air does more evaporation. The amount of FAE you need will always have to be dialed in your environment.

Iβm not sure it counts as dialed in if you have to still mist that oftenβ¦.i thought dialed in meant little to no maintenanceβ¦?

I don't think a no maintence grow is possible in my climate. Cakes always dry out no matter what.
I have used "dialed-in" to refer to tubs that have been adjusted for the lowest POSSIBLE maintenance
