fruiting some BRF cakes now - liking the look of the central one and plenty in number. They are lighter in color than shown in the pic.
Still waiting on the left cakes...

Side note: the verm is a lot easier and quicker and less messy to apply on the cakes after dunking, but from my (very) limited experience it seems the coir might be better at hanging on to the moisture after a spray. It's a bit harder to get the "fine droplets" effect with the verm

Yielded approx 38g wet. I don’t mind a bit of sporulation. I’m used to eating wild ones.

SO I dont make holes in the box for this tek? does box size matter much? Was seeming like 64 litre is good for sgfc at least.

On my first try at fruiting. Used water tub Tek with verm roll inside of coco because that's what I had.
Today is day seven in the tub, lid has been sealed on all the way with moisture appearing on the sides. I've opened it twice, once today to take the picture below and once after day 5 to see how they're doing. Doesn't really seem to be doing much.
Not sure if I should be doing something different or just keep being patient.

Mateja said: Currently I'm just using what's at my disposal and since I don't have vermiculite I'm using coir, so far it seems to be just as effective. But for new growers I'd recommend sticking with the time proven mothods altho I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get the same results as me using coir. But I'm noticing that vermiculite sticks better to the cake during the rolling process so it's easier to use for this process so Id just use that for my cakes!
I guess when it comes to the core functions of the HC there isn't much difference between the coir HC and water HC but like I've said before the coir tubs are easker to move around lol they don't splash around
Hey Mateja I don't have verm either. I believe I remember you saying you use coir inside your brf cake and not verm as well. Am I remembering correctly? If so what recipe do you use? 2verm:1brf:1water is it same just switch coir for verm?

Newb here! Got recommended this tek. Was following Pf-tek, but it seems we dont need perlite here as I think that tek was showing an sgfc.
Also this tek is super simple comparatively, but is there enough FAE? I thought holes in the SGFC were supposed to allow decent air-flow all around and even underneath the cakes?
I guess people have since decided we don't need as much FAE? Wonder why people changed their minds.
What size box should I use for my cakes btw? Does it even make any difference?
Does it matter how many cakes I put in there? I will aim for 20+ Or until the spore syringe is used up!
Thanks, thanks.

After a couple of days you crack the lid per the op. That creates big space for fae and you want to leave enough room between the cakes for when they fruit or there won't be enough room for them or they will push other cakes around.

My first batch of BRF I did 16x 4oz jars, on the basis that more cakes = more chance for success, and easier to fit my PC. But not sure this is critical.
Not sure box size matters too much. Personally I used multiple small boxes and moved the cakes about depending on what stage they are at. if you got 3 with pins and the rest are still brewing then sometimes its easier to separate.

No perlite or drilling holes needed. Birth and dunk your cakes like normal PF tek says. Roll in coir, put an inch or two of water in your tub, set empty pint jars in water with some kind of rack on top of them. Set cakes on rack, leave the lid on until you see pins & like wildaussie said then just turn the lid a little bit sideways to induce FAE and then watch em grow.
