Black caps is referring to aborts. The tiny shrooms that never grew.

All shrooms vary in potency so actually mixing them up well is the best way to make sure you’ll get consistent doses.

Black caps?  Never heard of that, are you sure they are not just spores from harvesting late?  As far as variability of potency, that is one of the major benefits of grinding them up and putting them in gel caps.  Everything gets mixed together and is the same potency cap to cap.

Yeah, they were definitely spores from harvesting late. But I thought that was what was meant by "black caps." A.k.a cleared it up, though, in that the information I was citing was talking about aborts, not about spore covered caps. I was assuming erroneously that the black caps from spores meant that the spores themselves were adding to the potency. My mistake.

Those look like '000' gel caps.  You get them empty at health food stores or online.  I personally use '00' which are slightly smaller.

I plan on using 00 as well, since that is the capsule machine I have, and the empty gelatin caps as well. On that topic, does anyone know how much powdered dry shrooms will 00 capsules be after the shrooms are grounded to powder?

I am guessing 0.5 grams per capsule, but that could be wrong if the density of dried shrooms is lower than some of the other supplements I have capsulated.

I think half gram is right. My 0 caps hold .33 if I pack them in.

000 is enormous I would hate swallowing those.

I use 00 and the best i've been able to pack in was 0.40, but that was one single batch. i average 0.30-0.35 at best.

Amazon - they were on sale when I got them and went ahead and bought in bulk to last me and did a whole variety of sizes.

Interesting, I used 0 and get .4-.5g per capsule. I use a ninja pro blender and use the individual server cups that come with it to get the boomers finely ground up and then capsulate. I suppose it does depend on how fine you can get the powder to maximize the volume within the capsule.

I use a nice coffee bean grinder and get .4-.5g also into "0" using
the capsule machine. Those "000" would hold a lot! LoL

Nothing makes it a more fine powder than a cofffee grinder.

Let the cup settle before you lift/open the lid after grinding... itll be like smoke.

lol yeah I can alway taste it a few seconds after opening the grinder.

I don’t have a capsule machine, just pack the powder in with a pen or whatever.

I was gonna get one to store the shrooms as caps but decided not to cuz I didn’t want them to lose potency after a friend basically ruined some I gave him by leaving them out.

Are the machines worth getting?
I’m almost at the point where it’ll be worth converting a bunch to caps just to free up some jars.

If u like swallowing capsules, grab a capsule machine.

But if u prefer your fruits in tact, get some holographic Mylar baggies: https://m.ebay.com/itm/50Pcs-Zip-lock-Pouches-Mylar-Aluminum-Foil-Bags-Food-Safe-Bag-Rainbow-Color-/174141576723?_mwBanner=1&_rdt=1

True. Might be too small for you bulk growers.

Another good option is a vacuum sealing system like the FoodSaver: https://m.ebay.com/itm/Commercial-Food-Saver-Vacuum-Sealer-Machine-Sealing-System-Vacuum-Storage-Bags-/333472465629?_mwBanner=1&_rdt=1

I really like the thing, easy to clean and use. Makes all the capsules
the same weight really close so it's always the same dose.

So I used a coffee grinder on about 6 grams, and encapsulated them. I got the powder very fine, packed down really nice. I ended up only getting almost exactly .25 grams into each 00 capsule. This is 24 capsules filled. If you're tempted to call bullshit because you can see a drop of space in the capsules, that's only because the smaller 1/2 capsules are on top piece of the machine, and I can only pack the powder into the larger, bottom pieces of the capsules. I wanted to get this done before the weekend, since I hope to trip this Saturday, exactly one week after eating the fresh.

I was going to ask about a vacuum sealer, since exposure to air seems
to be a major degradation to potency, even vacuum seal in a black
bag to avoid light(Idk if they make black vac bags). In terms of long
term storage would that help retain potency?

AKA I have a lil manual pill machine that does 24 at once, its convenient
when making lots of capsules, and I think it ran $5? I use for herbal supplements,
def speeds up the process and doing it in a large bowl prevents excess
spillage to be contained.

Yeah I probably have the same 24 capsule “machine“ as you. It’s a great little device. I did 24 capsules today, just to prepare for this Saturday. I’ve read on a lot of sites that a lot of people like to use a vacuum sealer. I don’t know one way or the other whether this is a good idea or  if it is unnecessary, but I have read in a few places in this forum where a lot of people don’t do that. Recently in this forum it was recommended to me to put the dried in to clean mason jars and throw one or two desiccants in with them and just close it up. Again, not sure if this is good for long-term storage, or if vacuum sealers are the way to go.

You should be able to get almost double that amount into each capsule.
You can put some more force on the tamper. I've even used a small piece
of wood to lightly bang on it.

I just picked up a 100 capsule machine for 000 caps and its 100% worth the money. Grind up 50g in my little coffee grinder and 5 minutes later I had a jar full. I used to sit in front of the tv and do each one by hand

Perfect for all the aborts and 4th flush weirdos
