Dish soap agar?
    #26598105 - 04/13/20 01:52 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Been having a bacteria issue with my cultures on agar that multiple transfers haven’t been able to fix yet, I’ve done 5 transfers but I keep getting metabolites all over my plates after about two weeks. The cultures grow slow af, takes about a month for it to take up a little bit more than half of the dish. Wanted to pick up some antibiotics but this covid shit makes me not wanna leave my house. I’ve heard of doing hot pours and I’ll probably try that next.

I know rr soaks his straw with dish soap when doing straw logs and doesn’t rinse it before he packs it, but I’ve only heard of doing it with oysters and cube myc isn’t as aggressive. I’m  wondering if the dish soap would be effective in the place of antibiotics in agar, at least for separating the myc from the bacteria. I don’t even know if the soap is even effective against the species the myc is having to deal with or if the pc would denature the soap so much that it’d even work against bacteria, but I figured I’d ask before I wasted the propane. I’m still pretty noobish so go easy on me if this is a dumb question :crazy2:

Idk if dish soap will work, but if you need antibiotic for agar, Shroom Supply is open and shipping and they have some if I remember right.

I’ll definitely check it out. Tbh I’m a little sketched even touching the mail right now lol we’ve been soaking our deliveries in  Lysol and leaving them out on the porch for a couple days. My girlfriend is incredibly immunocompromised and if she catches this she could die.
