How about eating frog legs? Or snails?
All of them, fucked.. frog legs sound sort of normal compared to the other two. I like oysters, never had the opportunity to try frog legs but I bet they’re good and snail make me feel like I would catch some sort of parasite from them. Snails have me feeling like they could cause an issue.

Ethnocentric views aside... considering some of the most commonly hunted animals in the states contain dangerous pathogens ( and around the world). Any food can be dangerous under certain conditions, as well as be safe - given the right treatment and right conditions. So, what’s the argument here?

China needs to grow up a little in the sanitation department is all.
I don't actually give a fuck what Chinese people eat- as long as it isn't people.. but there's rumors about that, too.
I just wanted to bite for Koods' setup. Didn't want him to go to all that work for nothing.

I don’t know what the argument is. I was just saying I feel like snails would be a good candidate for picking up some sort of parasite etc when eaten. Something odd.

Gotcha, sanitation. I’ll vouch for that. I drank a Heineken over there and almost lost my eye sight. It ended up being fake, but I bought it in a store where it was packed with others and completely closed just like in the states. Later found out it was a near perfect bootleg in all aspects except it wasn’t Heineken in there. Food was just as sketch depending on where you bought it from. Reminded me of Mexico but much worse in that it was pretty difficult to discern and predict what was okay to eat sometimes, and what might cause your problems, Mexico was far easier to navigate in terms of what to eat and what not to eat - imho, but I’ve spent a lot more time there This was around Shenzhen. Compare Much of China to japan or s. Korea and there’s no contest.
and Korea were easy and like the states in regulation for the most part but with a lot of differing food types. Never got sick at either of those countries from food.

In small part yeah, but more so because of my times as a novice in monestary - from daily chanting of the Sutra’s at the monastery http://onedropzen.org/uploads/sutrabooksogenji.pdf :
/Start
On top of Mount Obaku he met the painful stick. On Taigu's ribs he could use his fist. “Garrulous grandmother!” “Bed-wetting little devil!” “This lunatic twice pulling the tigers whiskers!”
In a rocky gorge he planted pines, a landmark for later generations. He dug the ground with his mattock; the others were nearly buried alive. Having approved the youngster, Obaku slapped himself right on the mouth. On leaving, Rinzai wanted to burn the arm- rest; he will sit upon the tongues of everyone.
If he didn't go to Kanan, he'd return to Kahoku. His temple overlooked the old ferry landing - he carried travelers across the stream.
He guarded the vital fording-place like an escarpment ten thousand spans high. Snatching away the man or the surroundings, he shaped and fashioned superlative students. With his Three States and Three Fundamentals, he forged and tempered black-robed monks.
He's always at home, yet forever on the way. The true man without rank went in and out the face. The monks of the two halls gave equal shouts, but guest and host were obvious.
Illumination and action are simultaneous, fundamentally without front or back. A mirror confronting a form, an empty valley echoing a sound. Marvelously responding in any direction, he left not a trace behind.
Tucking up his robe, he journeyed southward, then went to stay in Daimei. Koke took him as his teacher and attended him in the Eastern Hall.
Still using the copper pitcher and iron bowl, he closed his room and stopped his words. As the pines grew old and the clouds idled, he found boundless contentment within himself.
He had not long sat facing the wall when the secret transmission neared its end. To whom was the True Dharma transmitted? It was extinguished upon reaching the blind ass!
Old En of Engaku has now undertaken to circulate this text. It has been examined and corrected, therefore it contains no error or confusion. There is still one more shout coming; it needs further consideration: Zen students who have the eye to see, I entreat you not to exploit this text. Preface respectfully composed on the day of the mid-autumn festival, the year Senna of Koshi era.
/End

i dont know for sure. But I wasn’t the only one that it happened to in our group. But some iteration of what yo said is likely, and the explanation I got. I bought the Heineken, another friend bought some absolute vodka, both sealed in box and top like new.

I appreciate the story. Never going to China this life.
At one time I wanted to visit Baoding, China. That's where the little jingly jingly meditation balls come from.
Not anymore!!
And glad you're mostly ok, holmes.

Another friend got sick when we were in the south of China in the middle of seemingly nowhere... the stories I have from when we went to the hospital, are terrifying in one sense, but since she lived, it’s hilarious. Birds nest soup, turtle blood, and many other exotic things for us, that she had to eat as part of her treatment .... and she was from Kyoto, hahaha.
I bet if your a native citizen and are educated and know the ins and outs and dos and donts, it can be pretty good. There was a freedom there that I haven’t seen in a lot of other countries, so long as you don’t show up on any officials or gov. Radar hat is...

It was all there was in that rural area, major cities and provinces usually have a place that practices western medicine though.

A surreal experience, I'm sure.
Does everyone drink bottled water like Mexico?

A lot do, that’s how it seemed to me, maybe it depends on where you visit there, but we certainly did. Was only in China 2 weeks. More exp with jap n Korea and Mexico . Atleast in Mexico I know certain graded restaurants will be using bottled water and the like to prepare food, like washing salad and vegetables etc. love Mexico. Guadalajara is life. The US is dope too, mega creature comfort, but the community and vibe of some of Mexico (guad/Jalisco ) and japan (okayam/Hokkaido) and the festivities and everyday neighborliness and friendliness with everyone is strong and beautiful.
