Any Desert Growers out there?

Due to the current circumstances, I am attempting to take on growing mushrooms in the desert. I knew this would be challenging but I'm struggling just to get the right water content stable in my oat grain jars? I'm just doing a test runs with setting them up and they are dry in 48 hours. the first set dried out in 12.
First GJ I soaked for 24 hours and then steam sterilized for 2 hours. I did not have a really sterile place to do this part and I don't have a pressure cooker. They dried out in will say 24 hours.
The next ones I soaked for 12 hours, simmered for 15 minutes let strain for 15 minutes, Jared and sterilized for 2 hours. they are not fully dry after 48 hours but I feel they will be in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Any tips for a first-time desert grower?

They grains are shriveled up and completely dry? Are the lids on?? Are you leaving them in the sun?
It’s hard to believe they could dry that fast inside a jar inside your home....

It is the desert? I've never tried to grow anything here before? there is a 75% evaporation rate here?
My lids are on and tight they have a self-healing injection point on one side and a ply-fill air exchange on the other.
They are in a spare room in a cupboard on the top shelf to keep the temp consistent.
They aren't bone dry, well the first batch is. I made them up 12 days ago. The ones I made 3 days ago have the slightest moisture in them.

Try Foomans WBS prep. This allows for more moisture in the jar before PC' run. Also I recommend switching to syringe filters for your lids.

Thanks I actually came across that yesterday and gave it a quick look. I will go back and give it a try.
Any suggestion on the size syringe filters?

You can pretty much only do PF-tek (brown rice flour and vermiculite cakes) without a pressure cooker. Grains, especially oats are gonna be a no-go. You might get away with whole brown rice, a few have reported success but it's not advisable. If you were trying to steam sterlize in a pot that may be why your grain hydration ended up off. Pastywhyte grows in a very dry and cold climate so you can possibly get some info from his old posts on low humidity. If you do get a PC, I've always used eatyualive's oat prep which is super simple. Also, use unmodified lids tek by pasty to minimize moisture loss in a dry climate. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22158748 https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22767847

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Yeah I’m in the desert, normally my rooms about 16% Rh.
It shouldn’t matter for grain jars though with the filter over the little gas exchange hole.
Now fruiting tubs is a different story. Top layer of coir is miraculous.

I’m also in the desert. I had some jars in the garage for over a week and I cannot see any moisture loss. They are dry on the outside, wet on the inside, that’s how I l’ve always have done it.

I live in a desert-like climate with low RH. I just ensure to hydrate my grains thoroughly and use an evaporative cooler for the whole house to help humidify and keep temps down. Really adds a nice boost to all my jars and tubs. I love whole oats and just follow Bod's tek. Works perfect every time.

Thanks For all the feedback. I believe it changing up the air exchange filter will help and I think I was worried about the grain being too wet so I'm going to cut my drying time when straining from 15bminutes to 10 or once they stop steaming whichever comes first.

Yeah I missed the part about not having a pressure cooker. That's gonna be a need to have to do anything other the PF. Like Mach said.

I did the rolling boil for 20 minutes, the difference between that and soaking overnight was very noticeable. They looked a lot bigger and waterlogged. I should probably start taking pictures? Next time. Thanks

That’s an awesome looking jar.
Is there a wedge buried in the middle?
