Does these cakes/pins look normal?
    #26597506 - 04/13/20 09:13 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hi, first time posting. I'm trying my hand at growing and wasn't sure if everything was going as it should.

- white fuzz at the bottom of the pins, is that normal or should i be doing something different?
-------- rh is typicaly 90% or higher, fan/mist several time throughout the day.

- yellow/gold in color, wax-like in texture, is on the top of the large cake, is that normal or should I be doing something different?

thanks for the help & much love

The pins look good. The fuzzy feet they have can be from genetics or
lack of proper FAE but is fine. Those yellow droplets are from metabolites
which could mean a contamination most likely bacterial. But it shouldn't
affect much. Enjoy your coming harvest!

Thanks! I was worried given the amount of time and care this takes lol

The yellow droplets are on a cake that was grown in an all-in-one grow bag, which after it began pinning, I cut open and stuck into a sgfc with a small cool ultrasonic humidifier.

Also, it has some slimy stuff at the bottom of the bag, but still it pinned...
Would you say spraying the metabolites with diluted hydrogen peroxide 3% is necessary?

I should've added 2 new pics of the same cake with the metabolites but of the bottom of the bag.

Thanks again!

That's bacteria but don't spray them with peroxide it will only further
damage the mycelium.

They're fruiting and you'll get something from them anyhow. A good
idea now would be to clone a fruit to agar so you can work with a
clean culture instead of spores.

i must have really high standards or im afraid of hurting myself or others because I dont care what the cost I would throw those bags away the 2nd I saw that bacteria growing. I have thrown so much away getting my sterile technique down. Syringes are disgustingly dirty. You only realize this after transferring a few times from agar to agar.

Aga080

I definitely understand where you're coming from.

It looks like sour rot but I'm going to let it do its thing since it's in an sgfc by itself and won't contam anyone else. I'll end up doing the agar method and see if this happens again. Tbh, I'm on the fence with whether or not I should move forward with trying these and if I do then I'll post my experience (fingers crossed lol)

FYI, I'll end up posting the results of these cakes before anything. stay tuned!
