Banisteriopsis caapi - provoke new shoot on existing branch
    #26597201 - 04/13/20 03:50 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hello fellows!

I'm posting my first ever post on this forum as I was wondering if it's possible to provoke a new shoot at a specific location of an existing branch of my Banisteriopsis caapi.

To provide a bit of context. My caapi had a lot of leaves falling this past month when I removed it from artificial lights. It ended up having only three leaves left about a week ago. Since then, I added fish emulsion and bat guano and I had 6 new leaves coming and two new shoots. However, there is a big branch that is not giving any signs of new upcoming shoots and I'd like to fix that.

Is there any ways I can provoke a shoot on a banisteriopsis caapi branch? I know it is possible on some plant varieties by making a small incision in the branch, but I'm not sure whether if possible with a caapi.

Here is the plant:

And here is the branch I'd like to provoke a new shoot on:

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to shroomery mate!!
Nice little plant you got there...
Ive never been fortunate enough to grow Banisteriopsis-was once givin seeds but none germinated.
Your plant is looking fine-
If you live in a area with the right climate-plant it outside-youll then give it the opportunity to grow to its full potential .
The limb/branch on the right looks to me like it may have died off-but those new shoots lower down on the LHS  will over time become your next branches.

Thanks a lot for your answer! I thought about it being dead, I guess I'll just wait until the new shoots grow up as branches.

Yes I had the opportunity to get two cuttings of it. I heard it's quite hard to germinate the seeds.

I also have some P Viridis leaves that I received. Trying to propagate from it, they rooted but it's been since June last year and I did not have any shoot yet. It's taking ages but the leaves still look good so I guess i'll have to be patient.

Thanks again!
