I am middle aged now and recently married. All I care about is accrue some more wealth before I have kids and then keep accruing it so that they can have the life I never had. Grew up broke as fuck in a Jehovah's Witness household of hell and insanity.
I do some traveling on Occasion, caught Amoebas and Cholera in south east Asia. Had terrorist start murdering people down the road from me and watched military forces of 3rd world countries roll in and kick their ass and then have Muslims Rioting all over in a mostly christian Nation.
I think I am ok in the USA.

Peoples net worth is not always indicative of what they can spend or what's in their bank account

I own a half acre in a city with a nice sized house on it. I enjoy my job, when the government lets me go to work.
I look at instructions and drawings all day, that are very hard to understand, to build a new version of a machine, no one has ever really built before, a couple have been built but not one of them yet has actually been 100% completed yet.
I look at the drawings, try to understand them and my work instructions. Sometimes I have to close my eyes and envision them in 3d in my brain because the drawing is very 2d but wants me to build a 3d object.
I have to spend a lot of time on a computer too, researching exactly how to put it together, what parts I need, what metals can be used and not used.
Sometimes I get mad for periods because I can't find the information I am looking for in multiple 2,500 page documents but its rewarding when I finally figure it all out, get back on the machine and put it together.
I often look at another part of the machine that is similar and I see other employees did it all wrong which makes me feel kinda smart because I did something correct that everyone else just couldn't figure out themselves.
I find it kinda fun, sometimes my back will hurt, sometimes I have to work in weird angles.
Sometimes someone that did work that my work connects to is done wrong and I have to remove coatings and re paint things, I have to use extremely dangerous chemicals frequently.
I enjoy it, the responsibility of it all, I don't enjoy most my co workers though lol.
I was fairly content, my only stress was paying off the remaining balance on my property. I have paid it off well over half way from my purchase ammount, and it doubled in value after I bought it and despite the pandemic it continues to rise in value, I guess where I live is the new san fransico or something I really don't know.
I am waiting for my unemployment to be approved, but I just want to go back to work and get better at building these machines, impress my bosses and move up.
I quit my last job for the government 5 months ago to start this new career and then the Chinese Virus went all wack, I would still be working if I stayed at the government job.
Really didn't see this coming.

If unemployment lets me down for any reason I might just have to fire up my many pressure cookers and go back to my old youthful ways lol.
I got all my old equipment tucked away in a secret area for emergency purposes. Been many years since I have had or felt the need to break a relevant law.

Well I am suppose to qualify but I think I made a mistake so I submitted one of those hey I made a mistake things so I hope my small error blows over and they give it to me.
Until my work re opens I am not making money.
They were paying us at first while we were home but then the shutdowns got extended and the company was like we can't just pay you all for months to just sit at home.

Interestingly, Americans do not have to be extremely wealthy, in order to claim a spot among that 1%. A $32,400 annual income will easily place American school teachers, registered nurses, and other modestly-salaried individuals, among the global 1% of earners.
Contrarily, the top 1% of wage earners strictly in the United States must pull in at least $421,926 to make the cut.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
-An income of $32,400 per year would allow someone to be among the top 1% of income earners in the world.
-To reach the top 1% worldwide in terms of wealth—not just income but all you own—you’d have to possess $744,400 in net worth.
-The bar to enter the top 1% wouldn't be this low were it not for the extreme poverty that so much of the globe endures.

Where did you hear that? I talked to someone I know on the ATC council when this was all starting because I was planning a NH/VT/MA section, they said they'd likely be closing to protect the trail towns and prevent huge outbreaks at the crowded shelters, campsites, and hostels, which seems like a pretty common sense thing to do.
Trail maintainers will have our work cut out for us either way when a lot of trails will be full of blow downs and fully grown in by mid summer since there's no one hiking them and AFAIK there's no exception for trail maintainers entering the parks in the meantime. The trail I plan on working on will probably be a 3 day project that I'll need to camp out for, it's a wilderness area so now power saws allowed and it's a narrow trail that grows in fast. The good thing I guess is that there will probably be a lot of people available and eager to volunteer and clear trails again once this is over.

feevers said: It's really not some big conspiracy
Everyone on wilderness rescue crews, park rangers, people who do trail maintenance etc have been urging the government to shut stuff down since last month, in NH and Maine at least but Im guessing all over
My buddy in Maine says locals up there are going to trailheads and trashing cars of the hikers with out of state plates. Pretty fucked up, but I cant really blame them when these same cars are coming from highly infected areas (NY, MA) and also stopping at local stores and gas stations, and maybe even needing to get carried out of the woods because no one seems to understand it's still winter on the summits.
Imo it's pretty careless and selfish during a deadly viral pandemic to hike anywhere you can't call a friend or something to come help you get out if you twist an ankle or worse. One freak accident, which happen all the time, and you're forcing 8-12 people to come bail you out and be seriously at risk, because many are first responders and may currently be carriers. I hike 200+ miles a year and have had enough close calls even on easy terrain to know it's best to just stick to local and more mellow trails.
Social distancing is not really the issue in most places, although as I said before it's literally destroying the trail because it's mud season and people are widening the trail to make way when passing others, and destroying the super fragile alpine tundra on the summits to have more space to get their selfies
I wasn't super serious about the "conspiracy" comment...but when the gov starts saying I'm not allowed to buy seeds or plants or grow my own food, and that I'm not allowed to go fishing or hunting, and that I'm not allowed to go walk out in the wilderness...I start to feel a bit weird about the whole thing. I understand some of the reasons, but .
And I'm not talking about going on a multi-day back packing trips deep into the back country...Trails in the backcountry/wilderness in my area are buried beneath 10ft to 25ft+ feet of snow right now anyway.
But going on day hikes in general...I'm still going to continue to go on hikes regardless if there are signs saying the area is closed. I'm not putting my self or anyone else at risk. I'm not damaging the trails by walking on them (we don't have a "mud" season around here), and the trails and areas I go to aren't crowded (I'm one that avoids people, I always have lol, I tend to go to areas where there won't likely be anyone else around).
Come summer time, even if this is still going on, I plan on going backpacking/camping out in the wilderness.

don't have kids. fuck please don't. adopt.
kids need lots of love and attention and i think the world may be a better place if people didn't have kids for selfish reasons and gave them more love and attention especially between ages 0-18. money does not make a better world. it all starts with food. i dream of permaculture and solar panels and floating gardens made of recycled cars and bottles and microfarms and beautiful wild open spaces everywhere filled with native food plants and wildlife
you all destroy fucking everything though. there's really no point. do whatever who fucking gives a shit. im sick of picking up all your shit on the clack and puttin signs up telling you to clean up your camp sites in the mountains. fuck the nuEuroCali non culture stop destroying everything
"waaaaaaaah i wanna go fuck up the mountains but I didn't get permission so I'm gonna stay home and be afraid and angry " -slave
quit bein a spoiled brat and do something that benefits somebody other than you. grow some plants and birds to eat. do good to your neighbors

Reddit. When they were asking people not to go. Before they started actually closing down.
I know some parts of the trail do get quite eroded so it makes sense to me.
Though I imagine maintenance will be a pain as it starts to open up again.
