Excellent guide, thanks Bob! I’m Hoping to get out soon for my 5th season (I think)

I have seen an abundance of posts on Facebook groups about finding cubes in the eastern states, Do you think it’s possible for cubes to be found here one day?

As far as I'm concerned they do grow in SA in cow pastures. Never seen them myself but a few books I've looked at about South Australian fungi have them alongside subs.

You're welcome and happy hunting. I doubt it regarding Cubes or Pan.cyans since SA becomes a desert in the warmer months. Panaeolus cinctulus might occur here. It's listed as a species found in SA.

Hey everyone this is my first season hunting and I'm very excited!

I used to grow mushrooms and have also done some extensive research on our local active species. I've been out once this season so far with not much luck and am still trying to find some good locations.

I'm posting to see if there would be anyone wanting to possibly take me out hunting and teach me the ropes /Or if people have any advice for me

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Mango

I should have checked the forums sooner! Bob on the money as usual.

Keen to see what this weekend of moisture and cool weather manages to set in motion. Some of the micro climate areas could get going soon.

Has anyone lost a camo backpack from here? went to what I believe is a prettttty well known spot for a little look and found it with a jacket and compass inside

The next rain and drop of temps should definitely bring the first flushes, its dewy enough in some of the valleys, just need those temps to drop a few more degrees

that day in Feb when we got 40mm of rain would have been a good time to check as that was a rare burst of humid weather.

For anybody wondering if we can go out hunting, most places yes...

SA parks are open for locals to visit

Stick to parks near you, stay up to date with government guidelines about social distancing and movement restrictions and use common sense about who you visit with.

Good to know. I was slightly concerned there might be an increased chance of police interactions but I don't think police in SA seem to be bothering people too much. If anyone has any trouble, let us know.

Stay safe all and lucky hunting.

Hey all,

First time poster and new to Adelaide.

Excited for the season to kick in but have a few a question.

I've come from NSW/ACT and previously only collected P. Subaeruginosa.

I am going to try collect other varieties this season and wanted to know what is the most common variety to search for around Adelaide?

Cheers.

If you're willing to put in the time, serious time, you could go after G.purpuratus or P.alutacea, but that would really only be for the novelty value. P.subaeruginosa is the abundant, and relatively easily attainable prize in SA.

Check out Bobs hunting guide in his sig.

Went out today and basically only saw agaricus. They were in two spots in the city and didnt see anything out in the hills.

I dont have any good spots anymore though, the recent fires wiped out my only "good" one so im basically at square one now.

On a side note, every conservation park was packed. Even Cleland which is officially closed. Looks like shop closures etc drove people out into nature.

Bob, looks like your prediction for a month time, from start of April is correct. If we had another 15mm or so of rain, i think they could have started now.

Vic, Tas, NZ and NSW/ACT have had action since late March/early April. Just goes to show you that Oceanic Climate types are far more suited to mushrooms than us. We have a Hot/Warm Summer Mediterranean Climate type on the Koppen types.

Curious to see any other SA heads reporting on whats going on.
