Super lame.
I mean I understand the entire beach was closed and the lifeguard was telling the dude he couldn't be there for a while before he called the cops/sherrif.
...but still, that's pretty wack
From what I understand, outdoor activities are still 100% OK as long as social distancing is being practiced and people aren't gathering in groups and people aren't in areas that have been "closed".
The statement I read says...
Quote:
For purposes of this Order, individuals may leave their residence only to perform "Essential Activities." People at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and people who are sick are urged to stay at home or place of residence to the extent possible except as necessary to seek medical care. "Essential Activities" are limited to the following:
iii. To engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with Social Distancing Requirements as defined in this Section, such as, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, biking, running or equestrian activities. Use of park or playground equipment is prohibited.
(It lists other things as well but I only posted the part about outdoor activities.)
So people should still be able to go out for walks/jogs, hikes, bike rides, etc...As long as it's not in an area that's closed (but there are lots of areas that are closed).
I know Yosemite NP is closed entirely right now. I have some friends that work & live in Yosemite valley and I am super jealous of them having that entire place to themselves right now with no crowds or tourists anywhere lol . Having an empty Yosemite all to themselves.
From what I understand...Most, if not all, State Parks in California are closed to vehicle traffic. But they are still open to people walking/biking in.

OI U GOT YOUR PLANTING FOOD TO EAT LOICENSE M8
That's wack as fuck. I do not understand what the reasoning is behind banning the sale of seeds & plants?
Things like that make me start thinking there is something more going on here, thinking about conspiracies & shit lol.
When I'm not allowed to fish...When I'm not allowed to buy seeds and grow my own food...when I'm not allowed to walk around by myself outdoors in nature/wilderness..that's when I start getting very very .
I feel like things here in California are way more chill than other parts of the country ...Or maybe it's because I don't watch any TV/news and don't consume/pay attention to any sort of media so I'm not really "in touch" with the current state of events here. But I'm still able to buy plant seeds, I still go on bike rides, I still go on hikes when I get the chance. This whole thing hasn't really had much of any impact on me/my lifestyle at all yet, until they start closing down the "wilderness" .

It's really not some big conspiracy
Everyone on wilderness rescue crews, park rangers, people who do trail maintenance etc have been urging the government to shut stuff down since last month, in NH and Maine at least but Im guessing all over
My buddy in Maine says locals up there are going to trailheads and trashing cars of the hikers with out of state plates. Pretty fucked up, but I cant really blame them when these same cars are coming from highly infected areas (NY, MA) and also stopping at local stores and gas stations, and maybe even needing to get carried out of the woods because no one seems to understand it's still winter on the summits.
Imo it's pretty careless and selfish during a deadly viral pandemic to hike anywhere you can't call a friend or something to come help you get out if you twist an ankle or worse. One freak accident, which happen all the time, and you're forcing 8-12 people to come bail you out and be seriously at risk, because many are first responders and may currently be carriers. I hike 200+ miles a year and have had enough close calls even on easy terrain to know it's best to just stick to local and more mellow trails.
Social distancing is not really the issue in most places, although as I said before it's literally destroying the trail because it's mud season and people are widening the trail to make way when passing others, and destroying the super fragile alpine tundra on the summits to have more space to get their selfies

They can let us hike and warn us there won't be any rescue so don't fuck up. Simple as that, not ban my freedom.

lol I've been hearing some crazy things about Maine - cutting down trees to block peoples cars and enforce quarantines of residences with out of state license plates(who were there for over a month at that point anyway). Undoubtedly with pitchforks and torches.
It's all very...Maine.

We've already got states competing financially for medical supplies and trying to out bid each other . Makes sense.
Though I don't think we'll see a full blown civil war...more of a collapse.

That would never fly in America due to litigation and media
NH has been saying for years they're going to start sending the $10k bill every time they need to chopper out some wreckless hiker who got caught out unprepared, or ignored weather warnings, but there's a huge media backlash everytime it comes up so they don't actually enforce the bill.
I know a couple guys on rescue crews, they will be in no hurry for any calls they get until this is all over. The average response time is around 2 hours plus 1 hour for every mile from the trail head, wouldn't be surprised to see that wait double

One positive is that I've been exploring the little conservation areas near me a whole lot more. Early in the day or late at night it's pretty quiet and not hard to get away from people. Even right on the edge of the city we have a pretty cool trail system with lots of woods and views.
It's a zoo during the day now though, I've been walking the access roads under power lines and checking out the woods around them in my city. Saw a family of turkeys yesterday. Already had 4 ticks on me this season which is crazy, usual I only get one or two a year

I bet some of them are loving it. They finally have a reason to take out all their pent up rage at all the people "from away".
