Al Reuters does it again.

Earlier today, followers of the Religion of Peace fired on mourners gathered to honor the pregnant Israeli woman, Tali Hatuel, and her four children who were executed at point blank range by other followers of the Religion of Peace seven days ago. They dressed as women, and fired from the same house the original murderers used.
So what's the Al Reuters headline?
"Israeli Soldiers Kill Two Palestinian Gunmen". http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/nm/20040509/wl_nm/mideast_shooting_dc
Here's another account from a different source: http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFull&cid=1084073760763

Man, that really pisses me off. Stuff like that happens all the time. Reminds me of this: http://www.honestreporting.com/articles/reports/The_Photo_that_Started_it_All.asp
-------------------- 1. "After an hour I wasn't feeling anything so I decided to take another..." 2. "We were feeling pretty good so we decided to smoke a few bowls..." 3. "I had to be real quiet because my parents were asleep upstairs..."

I don't object much to the headline; the article itself didn't strike me as biassed at all. The only problem with the headline is that it starts "Israeli soldiers kill..." Actually, in this attack the only people killed were the palastinian gunmen.
Other possible headlines: "Israeli soldiers kill two Palestinian Terrorists" "Palestinians open fire on memorial service; shot by Israeli soldiers" "Religion of peace not so peaceful" "More people die in Israel; No prospect for peace" "Palestinian terrorists ambush peaceful gathering" "Praise Jesus! more Arab scum shot dead" "Terrorists killed in time" "Israelis kill Palestinians, demolish homes" "Terrorists disguise themselves as women"
If the Reuters headline biassed, how about the Jerusalem Post: "IDF demolishes 13 homes near site of Hatuel ambush" - it also emphasises the role of the Israelis.
I think the headline and article in the case are accurate, and any bias in the headline could be a result of emphasising the deaths rather than the role played by Israeli soldiers.

I noticed that you didn't post the headline from your comparison article in the Jerusalem Post, which read "IDF demolishes 13 homes near site of Hatuel ambush".
I don't really see what the issue is supposed to be here, 2 Palestinian gunmen were reported killed weren't they? The reuters article was also written the day before, so the info about the demolitions couldn't have been covered anyway.
-------------------- The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame". In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience. And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him. "Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

I think the point is the headline put emphasis one Israelis killing Palestinians, while glossing over the fact that the Palestinians were attacking Israelis in the first place and it was self-defense. Somebody just reading the headline might conclude that the Israelis were just killing Palestinians for the hell of it (like many of this board believe), when in actuality they were defending themselves against a terrorist attack. I think the framing of the facts does matter.

I agree, the framing of the facts can matter.
However, I think the headline of the article could be phrased the way it is to emphasize the death that occured. Also, it did say "Palestinian gunmen", which I think eliminates the possiblity that people would think they were killed for the hell of it.
Additionally, the headline from a clearly pro-Israel source sounded just as hard on the Israelis, although the article was ballenced and informative.
