Id request Victoria
    #26595381 - 04/12/20 09:54 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Found these two species. I suspect the first one to be a Gymnopilus and the second one could be pluteus. Found these in se suburb in Victoria
Specimen 1
I didn’t pick these so I couldn’t check the for blue bruise

Specimen 2
This one I suspect as a Gymnopilus specimen
Gills were creamish colour. Ill go and check for these tomorrow once again. Please let me know what you guys think of these

Those gymns are not poisonous and are likely active. Will need better pictures to confirm though. They are definitely Gymnopilus, which are not poisonous

I agree,  the Gymnopilus in the aeruginosus-luteofolius group or lepidotus-subearlei group. I can't see enough details to say which one.

I think in this case the only way to know is to assay this yourself. Gymnopilus can cause GI upset in many people, so be aware of that. I’ve never known of anyone being seriously sickened by them, but follow some kind of procedure, eat a small amount, see how it reacts to your system, work up from there in dose and see if there is a noticeable effect.

I dunno what kind of disclaimer to add, other than use good sense and only hold yourself accountable and responsible.

I think Doc and Moria already confirmed the Gymnopilus as far as it can be confirmed.

Of course, don’t do anything you have doubts about.

Those are definitely Gymnopilus as well. But honestly there’s no way to confidently call the exact species without microscopy and a thorough inspection of all characteristics. It’s a pretty big genus with a broad distribution and macroscopically many look very similar. We come only give you an educated set of “likelies”.

That's not a pluteus from what I can see, compare to Hymenopellis furfuracea.

These appear to be bruising blue, which is rare for Gymnopilus. Im not familair with the species but i say you have an active Gymn. Please wait for opinions from someone who knows Gymns though.

Okay, what about the gym dilepis? Are they positive id?
Also what if i eat inactive gym species? Is it toxic the level that it can kill me, or just bad nausea? If these are gym dilepis then I’d give it a try to see if it’s active. The one with blue bruising looks promising, only unsure about dilepis

The gymns are Gymnopilus dilepis as I thought they were, the purple/red stipes confirm it. They are active, not toxic.
