Contam or bruishing on a 100% colonized cake ?
    #26593123 - 04/11/20 10:05 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hi!

I just had my first cakes colonized and wanted to birth them out but when I take them off the jar it turns out that there is something green on it! Small little dots.

I'm not sure what it is and what I should do next.

I dunked this cake for a night. I have much more to come and wanted to know what to do because every cake looks perfect through the glass.

- temp of room : about 20C
- time: over 1 month of colonization
- Process: I did everything as shown in "Lets grow mushrooms videos" for brown rice flour

I would appreciate any help

The discoloring on the last two pictures would concern me. I don’t work with cakes so not sure the correct look. Does it have any strange smells?

It smells too good to describe it! Pure mushrooms... nothing more ^^

And that uncovered area - I think it's due to the high hydration of the verm, am I right?

I inoculated 20 jars and every one of them looks perfect. I learn that craft for about 4 months right now and I will go crazy if that work goes wasted :smirk:

BTW: does the long period of colonization (Mexicana goes for a month and had 50% colonization) affect end result?

Lacking experience to answer any of those questions. I’m sure some else will be able pick it up.

Dont look like bruising to me. Bruising is blue. Could just be uncolonized bits

Id fruit it, youve come this far. Soak her and roll her and see how she fares

Thanks Enkidu, it's always better to be pumped up by the word of someone more experience. Of course I'll give it a try and inform along the way.

It's my first (not counting growbox haha) real try and I hope you all can help me
