Farm upgrades - shipping container flooring
    #26592776 - 04/11/20 05:36 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hey guys,

I'm moving my operation to a new, larger location. I'm currently growing in 5 insulated shipping containers and will be continuing to use these as grow rooms at the new place.

They are ex-refrigerated containers and have metal grate flooring. I'd like to put down some flooring over the top to make them easier to clean out.

I thought about laying concrete sheet on the existing flooring, silicone all the gaps and edges, put some sort of waterproofing over it and then some kind of flooring (vinyl flooring maybe?) but I want it to be as slip resistant as possible.

Anyone tackled a job like this before or have any ideas?

The metal grate is waterproof with the grooves running toward the rear where there is usually a drain. It is set up to be quickly power washed. Any thing more is a waste of money I would think. Unless the grooves make it hard to move your shelves or carts or whatever. There are a lot of options for waterproofing - I like polyurea but requires hiring someone due to specialized equipment needed. Nice thing is you can apply it over concrete board or primed plywood and roll your carts or shelves back onto it in about 10 minutes. You can drive a forklift over it in about 4 hours. Epoxy's are usually brittle after a while and fail and is long in setting up. Other roll on polyurethanes can be used. Stay away from acrylics, they don't stand up to the constant humidity. One hint is caulking gaps - If you use silicone there is no going back. Only silicone sticks to silicone. Better to use a good polyurethane caulk and keep options open.
I have a 40 foot reefer coming in about a week for same purpose and look forward to just pressure washing it out as is.
