This bufo toad is very unique. He is also very young but I understand they live quite a long time. I'm also thinking about getting a female so I can breed them. Such a beautiful creature. If anyone has any tips for raising and maintaining this lovely amphibian let's chat!

You're coming to a mushroom forum to learn how to raise toads????
What does your setup look like? Surely its not just that plastic lid?
If so, you shouldn't be growing toads because that's absolutely wrong. I really hope thats not all the toad has...
Post a pic of your aquarium atleast. Do you have lights? A little ecosystem for it to feel comfortable and safe? Any heaters? Water? The toads need to feel comfortable and safe or else it wont produce for you after a while... Help us help you.

Btw the pic of the road itself was on the day of purchase. I hadn't even made it back to my car yet. The frog has been on a 20gal terrarium with all the things toads know and love. The pic is just of me carrying it at the trade show in some plastic container the breeder out it in for transport. Any of you who think I'm dumb enough to raise a frog in that must know some dumb people in your lives haha

Bufo are nocturnal toads so they bury themselves in the bedding. I'm using coco coir/pinestraw/vermeculite for bedding. it has a big bowl of water(it lays in it more than it drinks it) and also has a few logs to play on. Temp is around 75° during the day and oh boy he is active at night. He jumps around his terrarium like a madman. he's super happy.
The Tupperware you see in the picture was his home for 20min on the car ride from the dealer to the casa.
Thanks for all the ignorant judgements and these Tupperware containers are used anywhere amphibians are purchased. They are very common. have built in air holes for transportation. Well I wanted to have an interesting conversation about the bufo with some people here (toads, dmt, lsa, there's all sorts of stuff posted in the psych adelic section on the boards here but based off some of y'alls ignorance I need to be on a more experienced site. Maybe erowid should make some boards for those who have put in the work the research and the time.

It's ok.

Calm yer farm there buddy. Based off this question....

..the assumption on how well prepared you are in terms of providing for the toad goes up in the air. You would be surprised how people are inconsiderate in such matters. First bit of advice I would offer is that a 20 is way too small. You’re going to need to buy or build something a lot bigger with minimal dimensions of 4 feet by 2 feet. Toads cover ground so if he’s constantly banging into the wall it’s going to injure/stress him and problems will occur. Do you have any shots of your set up? What are you feeding little dude?
Convieniently enough there’s a type of board called melamine at most hardware stores that comes in cuts of 4x2 so you can get 5 sheets, cut one in half for your sides and cut one to have a swing down door and make a box. In addition to that a sheet of plex and some hinges along with some non-toxic silicone to seal the seams and you’re in business. That’s about as cheap as you’re going to get for a 4x2 box. You’ll need some other things like heat tape and a dimmer. He’s going to enjoy his stay a lot more in a set up like that.

How long are you waiting before buying him a friend?
Jumping around at night is happy? Maybe he is looking for the exit?
Pretty sure this won’t end well... but, good luck anyway!

My friend keeps a pair of toads, she keeps them in a staggered terrariums that have a flowing stream through them and a pool at the bottom. There's live plants and deep bedding in one of the terrariums for them to dig underground caves. They get live bugs when hungry and are humidity and temp controlled as well. They can be quite social so it's kind of unkind to keep one alone. She doesn't milk her toads at all though, just keeps them purely as pets.
It can be hard to keep them happy and healthy, but rewarding once you get the hang of it. Happy toadkeeping.

Well considering the toad is less than a year old and I was told by the dealer that a 20gal tank would be perfect up until he turns about 5, then I'd consider upgrading to a 40gal tank. The dealer had 6 toads some baby some full grown all packed in a 40gal and said they love it. She didn't even have bedding which I thought was kind of sad. No they aren't looking for the exit they are nocturnal so hopping around at night is normal especially when I put a dozen calcium covered crickets in there every other night for him to munch on. I've talked to plenty of people since I've made this post and the general consensus is that my toad is doing just fine. It is common for people who think they know frogs to act like they understand the bufo but honestly the bufo is very different then most toads in a lot of ways. And there is loads of opposing info on the subject because it is rare for one to have outside the wild. So On that note I thank everyone on here for their concern and opinions but consider this thread closed.....or just expect me not to respond anymore. Thanks for the advice but I got it from here and I'll post pics every year or so if anyone wants to see "al crocker" in the future. He has been a blessing to me so far and is blessed him in return so our relationship will be doing just fine. I'm sure he'll love a very long life.
