BRF jar wet spots on walls
    #26591002 - 04/10/20 12:39 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hey guys,

It's been a while since i last posted here and grew anything.
I am doing a BRF jars for cakes. Using an ice cooler, with jars and beer bottles filled with warm water, to maintain temperature.

A week in a half after inoculation, i realized that the surface temperature of my jars is 80F - the bacterial sweet spot lol Since then i decreased the temp between 74-76F. The mycelium is growing well, some jars look entirely colonized.

I have noticed that once jars are close to be fully colonized, the mycelium shrinks a bit, detaching from the walls of the jar.
When it started shrinking, i noticed some wet spots on the walls of the jars.  Should i be concerned?

Also, i have a the jar topped with verm and that layer doesn't really colonize densely.

Thank you in advance for the help and time! It's good to be back!

Jaboka

I am pretty sure they are fine. It looks like condensation. If it stalls at all or they smell when you open to birth them toss them out.

Condensation, and they look ready to birth, look fully colonized.

I pour 1/2 inch tap water inside a plastic tub, put cakes inside, don't give two fucks about misting them and this is how my cakes look today. Some are not rolled in anything some have coir sprinkled on top of them

This cakes wasn't rolled in anything either and not misted either

What FC are you planning to fruit in?

How would water only work? have you tried?

I think i will soak the cakes and just use water instead of moist coir.
Deliveries of coir/verm etc. will take weeks, as I am in a lockdown currently.
