    #26591155 - 04/10/20 01:56 PM (4 years, 9 months ago)

so I have a monotub that I put in fruting conditions exactly a week ago from today. yesterday I noticed this grayish yellow hue to the mycelium. when I look threw the plastic tub its looks fine and nice and white but when I open the top I realized it seems It has a discoloration. Any help would be appreciated!

Is doesn't look too bad and there's knotts in there which is good.
Have you been misting and fanning once a day?

That looks real dry.

I think the yellowing is the myc dying off, same happened to me when I started.

Keep they humidity up.

I've been misting and fanning about 3 times a day.

Only fan once. And I'd try misting the interior sides of the tub down good
to increase humidity.

Check the Misting & FAE link 👇 some pics in there show what surface conditions
should look like

Yup. Too dry. I am a noob so I may be totally wrong about what follows but it worked for me. I just recovered some that looked almost exactly the same and they are pinning now.

One thing that doesn't seem to be covered in the surface conditions link that Rumfor69 mentioned is that once your myc gets that dry, you almost can't get the water to bead up. It just soaks up or puddles. The dried mycelium loses its "waxy" surface tension and it doesn't let water pass to the substrate and healthier myc below the surface.

I was able to save mine by adding some water down the side of the tub to rehydrate the surviving sub-myc. Not a lot of water, (maybe 60 ml or a 1/4 cup in a 54 liter tub) but I could see it on the side of the tub for about a day. Keep in mind that you often dunk or soak after a flush or two, so dry myc can take a bit of watering. Then I gave plenty of fae so any excess water could evaporate while misting the center of the tub without allowing it to puddle. I tried to keep most of my misting away from the edges because that is already wet from the soak and you will end up with all side pins. If I got puddles, I would tilt the tub to allow them to run to the edge and down the side.

Ideally, maintaining good surface conditions like those in that tek explain will prevent having to take these measures. But with a little patience and luck, that is what worked for me.

Good luck and less is more.

I don't see any yellowing...If you see slight yellow in the other bits of water, that's just mycelium piss, use a paper towel to soak it up a bit, lay a paper towel over it, then pat gently with your finger tips, it'll soak into the towel, then toss it. After that you'll probably need to mist, since you're absorbing moisture from the environment/sub.

Pour a 1/2 a cup of water on top. Watch that thing pop back up. Also maybe some kind of cover to reduce FAE.

I heavily misted the inside and misted the substrate pretty generously but I. debating removing the polysilicon and putting microphone tape over it till it pins? or should I just tighten up the poly fill it seems like it losses humidity. there's also a nice bit of humidity on the lower sub because I can see down the sides of the pan. The pans are also about a 50/50 coco verm mix with a little bit of coffee as a supplement.

If that were mine i would late case it to protect the surface from further drying out. You should check your humidity levels also.

The surface looks damaged from misting too frequently and/or misting too heavily/close to the surface; as well as low humidity and high fae. It can be saved though.
