So almost all mine died.  I covered it with glass last night and didn't get out there till after noon and sun cooked them. I layed down more seed.
They all didn't die but 97% did die.

It's going to be cold so I put more of same varieties down and soaked the ground.

That really sucks man

Do you think that you'll have enough time for more to grow?

Idk. It's cold out now. I'm trying to keep them moist. So all the others died but like 2. Really sucks.
Hopefully the other set will sprout and live that way I can at least get more seeds from them.
I still have more but I am keeping them in case I need next season

That's nuts brother!

I'm in 7A, and although it got freezing last night, the sun has been out all day and it's near 60.

I lost some Coleus, and possibly my Brugmansia's from this freak cold snap, but no poppies of course.

Oh, It turned my Pomegranates leaves brown too :mad2:

Yeah, when i lived in northern california i was in zone 9a and we averaged over a foot of snow annually. sometimes we would have frosts through april. The only thing hardiness zones tell you is the lowest temperature you'll see.

Yeah, as of the past few years, our lows haven't even got close to as low as my zone calls for.

We have actually had zone 8 winters, and I believe some of my tropical plants could have made it just fine staying outdoors throughout the whole winter.

https://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/nevada-city/california/united-states/usca0755
I just checked, and we actually averaged 18 inches of snow there. completely different than a zone 9a in florida. I was actually talking to a gardener in florida about the climate there and she said i must've gotten something wrong because "it barely ever snows in zone 9a". back on topic, i'm considering doing a late sowing of asian ob poppies, I know they would bolt early but I really want to see them bloom this year lol.

I lived in zone 9A Florida, and zone 9B Florida, and I saw saw snow only a couple of times in my 10 years of living there, but that was only in 9A, and it was just flurries that melted once they hit the ground.

I say go for it, you may just get stunted poppies that still at least bloom

I just ordered some poppy seeds 10,000 actually. Can't wait to start. I hope it's not to late though I'm in the north east.

It may be too late for you.

I sowed poppy seeds a couple months late, years back, and they grew little tiny three inch plants, with microscopic pods.

However, with that many seeds, might as well give it a shot

I about to sow my 3rd pack in over a month. Why the fuck will Somnifera not pop for me.
Maybe ill just germinate some indoors and transplant as a  Last resort
I have fabric cell packs that can be planted directly; no reason for the root to be disturbed.
my California poppies that are in the shade are growing

That's strange that they aren't germinating. are they getting buried maybe? is the soil being kept moist?

I think, by the time you do all that, it will be too hot out to even put them outside.

if you had the room, you could do this....

Yep, but maybe he could at least try that out, since it's not working for him outdoors.

I know he is a half zone ahead of me, and there is no way in the world I could sow poppy seeds this late, as hot as it will be getting, starting next month.

How can you grow them indoors like that if they need cold?
