Green mold in the corner of an old mono tub
    #26589349 - 04/09/20 05:43 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

I have a 54 qt mono that was spawned January 29.  It has been through multiple flushes and produced a ton of fruits.  I just noticed that one of the corners has some green mold growing on the side of the sub in one of the corners and is also on top in that corner area.  I did some searches to see what to do, but couldn't find an answer.  I have a couple other tubs in the area.  Should I get that tub the fuck out of the house as soon as possible?  I live in the country and have a horse.  Can I cut that corner off and bury the good part of the sub in some horse poo or just trash the whole thing.  There are a few nice fruits coming up now.  Maybe just transfer the whole thing outside?  Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Okay, so I could tell this was an urgent matter.  I put the whole tub in a garbage bag and took it outside.  I sprayed lysole in the attic where it was and the closet where the attic access is.  I hope it doesn't spread elsewhere!  I am going to cut off the green part plus some extra and bury in some horse poo outside.  Thanks for the quick response.

My A/C drain line backed up and started leaking into the overflow pan over the weekend.  There was a bunch of mold on the surface of the water.  I used a shop vac to suck all that nasty water up.  I wonder if the exhaust of the shop vac distributed the mold all over the attic area.  The A/C is 40 or 50 feet away from the tubs.  Oh well, you live and learn.  It had to be done and I didn't have anywhere else to put the tubs anyway.  I will keep a close eye on the other two tubs up there and the one tub in the closet.  Thanks again, CocaineBuffet

Bulk subs often contam towards the end of their life. When you mix your spawn in you’re also mixing in countless other spores and whatnot, and once the sub has put out all those fruits and gotten tired it allows for some of the other stuff to take hold.

The most common green mold we see is trichoderma I think it’s spelled. Or just Trich. It’s a parasitic mold so it will be entwined with your mycelium and by the time you see it, it’s too late.

But you definitely want to get it out before it goes green because there no sense upping your Trich spore count where you grow. Look up pictures so you can learn to recognize it before it goes green, it’s the bright white snowy stuff you may have noticed.

I noticed a 3" × 1" green area on the side of the sub in the corner.  The sub is pretty old, shriveled and dark so I probably would have noticed white and fluffy... Anyway,  the tub is sitting on the back patio in a garbage bag.  I'll do something with it tonight or tomorrow.  Do you think I can cut the green part off and stick the good part outside (Florida) and not risk contaminating other outside grows? I live on 5 acres so I can spread things out.

What kind of outside grows do you have going? Just bury whole substrate no use cutting the nasty off. It’s already taken over by the time is green.

I have been dumping extra/spilled grains from g2g, extra substrate water, and most recently my first grow, a small casserole dish into a pile of horse poo.  Got a couple so far but have been letting them spore to grow more,, except this one:

Here are some more pics of the contaminated tub (bottom right corner):

I guess I will put this sub in the same general area as there is a hose and plenty of poo there.  I am going to cut that corner off first!

How many flushes have you gotten??

Lol that’s an old ass tub. The shrooms look good though still, I let a tub go to 6-7 flushes before and they started coming up all weird looking.

I lost count, but around 8 flushes, or more.  I just harvested them outside.  They are in a pie pan with saran wrap over it for now.  I am wondering if I need to do anything special with them or just put them in the dehydrator, which is in my grow area.  If there are any mold spores on them I'm concerned they might be spread around the bedroom.  Is that a valid concern?  Is that the kind of mold that spreads by air?  I assume it is.  Maybe there is a way to wash them off first... or just put them in the hot garage to air dry.
