Slow fruits?
    #26589150 - 04/09/20 03:58 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hey guys so a few days ago my APE tub started to pin and a few have been popping up every day but I feel as if they are taking so long. Did 6 jars of spawn into coco coir. Tub has been kept between 70-75 degrees 12hr on off lighting and there are beads of moisture on the surface. What would cause such slow growth?

Have you considered sprinkling some coir or coir/verm across the top, turning up the FAE and misting when the coir dries up a little

Or if you can go with a traditional casing that would be optimal as well.

The 2 things I know about the PE strains are 1) they are slow growers and 2) they desperately need to be cased if you want any hope at all for large fruits.

Did you case? How long since you made the tub?

This is my first attempt at PE the tub was spawned on the 30th there are knots everywhere and all I have is coco coir at the moment there are a few pins as you can see could I case in coir only?

Yep.

I get it hydrated to FC. Then microwave it in a quart jar/s for around 3-4 mins then once it cools  [spread out in a plate or tray] i just sprinkle it over the surface as evenly and airy as possible. 1/8-1/4" or so

Keep it misted when the top begins to go light brown.

Thats how i did this one just last week

What are the better options for casing ive read allot about peat/Verm and jiffy mix but I can’t seem to find them near my house at all?

For early casing the peat is better but for late casing coir is perfectly fine if the sub is already colonized and beggining to knot. If not there is a chance the sub will try to colonize the coir case.

Youll need to pastuerize and use the proper additives for the peat casing.

Stand alone garden joints. The internet. I get gyspum from amazon but i only use in substrates occasionaly. I mostly use gypsum for millet grain prep so a $10 1lb bag will last a long time.

So this is what I have now. What do I do from this point?just spray when dry? What’s the actual point of a casing? This is my first time at doing this and I’m confused on what I’d does and when to do it. Thank you so much for your help it’s truly appreciated!!!!!!

Too dry. Before you mist and get the sides wet take a towel and wipe that wall crust off then give it some misting until its SLIGHTLY near saturated then leave it be for a while. When it gets to that light brown dry color again then mist. If you get the casing too wet just leave the top off or fan as itll dry from the surface of the coir quite rapidly.

The casing provides moisture at the surface level more consistently as evaporation occurs to help induce pinning while also providing the knots a boost in humidity to form primordia, again, by providing ample moisture at the surface level.

Provide ample FAE and continue to Mist to keep that casing looking nice and moist [not saturated] Once the pins come through the casing youre golden.

So basically I should expect to see fruits popping up through the casing layer at this point not colonization of the casing then?

Correct. If fruting conditions did not change and the sub is fully colonized  [it appears to be] you should see pins poking through in the next 12-36 hours id say.

Normally you put the casing on before pins form. Then the casing gets partially colonized then pins pop.

I'll be very interested tho follow this tub because I'm eager to see affects of a late casing.

Looks good though 👍 hopefully it's nice and thin, especially since it went down so late.

Sweet!!!! I left the larger ones uncased just because their at about a half inch but all of the little blobs I left covered! I appreciate all of the info you have been giving me you’re very helpful!!!! I kept the casing very thin and I will update when/if I get pins!!!

This is a late cased tub. Casing in pic is wet due to top and bottom watering but still provided a killer pinset from MS.

That tub spit out nearly 7oz

This tub is MS APE. I thought the jars were useless but after a month they colonized and then ripped through the coir in like 5 days. I’m hoping with this basic casing it will fruit a decent yield I was skeptical before but you seem like you know your stuff!

It works well when you need fae for pinning but RH is low.

Would it help if I put in my room? I run a fan when I sleep ant just use an unmodified sterilite tub with the lid flipped. It’s not the best tub for the job but I can get good droplets on the surface.
