Bulk Substrate ratios of materials...

I am ready to put my golden teachers in the monotub.
I have a 5lb grain bag fully colonized.
I plan on using vermiculite, coco coir and plaster a Paris.
I have a 54qt tub ready.
I plan on boiling water and putting in a sterile 5 gallon bucket with my substrate to pasteurize it.
What ratios of each will I need. Thanks in advance.

Damien5050's bucket tek is what I personally use. His original recipe calls for 1 brick coir, 2.5 quarts verm and 1 gallon water. I use this substrate (after it's prepared) and mix 7 quarts of spawn when doing monos.

Just use the coir and verm don't bother with the plaster it's completely unnecessary. 1 brick coir, 2 quarts of verm, one gallon of boiling water dumped on it in a bucket, snap the lid on tight, let it sit for 90 mins, stir it up good and should be good to go. Long as spawn is perfect you should be successful.

You can purchase any 5gal bucket from any hardware store, I clean mine with very hot soapy water first, I rinse all with hot water, and use iso/peroxide to complete the sterilizing process. I have never had contams on my substrate doing my monotubs this way.

Seems like too much of a chance to take skipping certain points of sterilization. I know for myself at least I'd feel mighty horrible negligently contaminating my poor fungal pals.

Pasteurizing still wouldn't be sterilizing.
Aside from that, that's why it's important to make healthy spawn **not saying my methods will work for everyone**

pasteurization is not sterilization and iso doesn't sterilize. Understanding the difference between kind of clean (sanitized) and completely clean (sterilized) is an important part of this hobby. As wolf said, clean spawn is of utmost importance. Clean agar to properly prepped and STERILIZED grain in a STERILE environment is where it's at.
I was just playing around with the "sterile bucket" comment. I new what you were going to say. I prep my coir in hdx tuff totes and do not iso or bleach them prior to use. I just rinse them out with water and do my thang.

I'm just a germophobe. I go way overboard when it comes to making sure there are no third party microbes causing me problems down the line.

I feel ya. Problem is, unless you build your tubs in a completely sterile environment (you don't), that bucket you iso is dirty as hell just seconds after you sanatized it. No harm in being careful but sine things are just over kill. I do iso tubs before spawning (usually).

See I know that its gonna be dirty immediately afterwards, its just common sense, the bucket is in open air - My phobia however dictates a lot of my actions which in many cases assist me. You may wipe it down with just a cloth, I wipe it down with a cloth damp with iso, just makes me feel better about it.

That's completely fine. So long as you know the difference between STERILIZED and sanitized, I'm good. Well, I'm good either way. Just tryin my to help a brother understand.

What if you left your tub sitting in the backyard for three months and it's an absolute contam Bonanza? Still just warn water?
I blast them clean with a pressure washer and then lightly iso before use.
