Question about premade boxes
    #26587435 - 04/08/20 09:30 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Does anyone have any experience using these back to the garden boxes?

https://files.shroomery.org/files/20-15/640295465-81WCBll2QvL._AC_SY741_.jpg

The description is: "ORGANIC MUSHROOM GROWING KIT: Grow delicious, gourmet oyster mushrooms right out of the box in just 10 days! Just add water and watch them double in size each day."

Could I add this using a lasagna technique to an outdoor garden and see results? Meaning straw, then sprinkle some, the cardboard, sprinkle some, water, straw, sprinkle, cardboard, woodchips,  etc.

Thanks.

You should be able to use it as spawn and run it into a larger mass but it's hard to say how far it's already been ran, which could result in senescence. I've done it with similar kits and expanded one onto 4l of sawdust. It didn't do to well but that was probably because I was fruiting it in a s.g.f.c. and was fairly inexperienced at the time.

I should also mention that you will get better performance if you side fruit oysters as opposed to top fruiting out of a bed. You could make a raised bed and drill 1/4"-1/2" holes in the side or have it slatted with 1/4"-1/2" gaps, if you are set on the bed idea. Or you could use 5 gallon buckets or bags etc. Also it would be best to bring the substrate you are going to use up to field capacity and pasteurize it (if not supplementing with high nitrogen materials) and then do the layered "lasagna" method you mentioned.
