Tighten down the hatches buddy! You have a hole with polyfill for steam to escape from.

If using metal or SS lids then yea tight is right.

If using PP5 plastic lids back em off a tad because if tightened fully once they cool they will be a son of a bitch to loosen up.

I've actually warped metal rings in a PC cycle before, then they're all sorts of fucked. Now I twist the rings until they just start to snug up before I PC. Once I'm done the cycle and pull them out, the first order of business is to tighten them down the rest of the way while I wait for the condensation to settle.

I like to set the lid on top of the jar, and gently spin it until it snugs itself. Even with SFD's, the metal bands like to snug tighter after the cycle, making it harder to loosen them. Starting with them a hair loose makes it ezpz!

thats what I do too. Before this, I had one difficult jar that I tried to open in my SAB (bad idea).  After a minute of struggling, several cursewords and substantial damage to my hand, I successfully got the jar open, but also spilled all of the grain out all over the inside of my SAB. Made a huge mess. Lesson learned. Now I tighten VERY gently before PC.

I like to leave my lids a little on the loose side. Filtered or not.
Especially plastic. They always warp if I PC with the lids snugged down. The regular mouth lids seem a little less prone to warping so I will spin those on until they just stop but not super tight. Widemouth i do the same but then back the lid off ever so slightly just a hair. Never get warped lids doing this.
