Ehrlich test, is this right?

I was gifted a few gel tabs the other day. I took one over the weekend and first thing I noticed was it was kind of bitter and it didn't feel like acid normally does. I ordered a test kit and this is what I got, the gel on the left and a piece of blotter on the right. The blotter turned that color almost instantly and it took a while to see any color on the gel but I'm not sure if the color change is a positive result or if it's just the color from the gelatin itself. This is my first time using a test kit so I wanted to get an opinion from more experienced people. Thanks.

Red or violet is positive for indoles, yellow or no change is negative. It's not nbome which shows light green.
It's more of a yes or no thing. It could be AL LAD or a variety of indoles, but it's not nbome.

I've always been a bit confused by Ehrlich tests, since they seem like they're positive for so many different psychoactive compounds. Is it basically just to make sure your tabs aren't nbome?

Yeah basically, they just check for indoles. That could be DMT, LSD, tryptamines, so many things.
Nbomes and RCs being mis-sold aren't as common at the moment as they were, these sort of tests were life saving a few years ago. Many like the safety check still though.

Here it is after an hour, blotter is still purple but the gel is a brownish yellow. Dark purple is DMT.

I'd be concerned about eating that. Red, pink, purple are positive for indole and the reaction should increase over time.
It's been years since I've seen a fail on that test. LSD is so cheap and widely available at the moment, you'd have to be really scummy to pass off crap.
Then again they may have been sold as what they are, but that knowledge has been lost on its journey to you.

They were sold as acid to the person that gave them to me but who knows where that guy got them from. It felt way stronger than acid normally does but less psychedelic and more speedy. Sucks because I can rarely find acid around here.
