Very spikey myc, this healthy or abnormal?
    #26586964 - 04/08/20 06:04 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Second try ever, first 54qt mono failed with slow colonizing and severe trich. Went with 2 separate smaller tubs this time and a higher amount of spawn to bulk. To my eyes it looks great compared to my last, but it also looks different than others I’ve seen. Wondering if this spiked growth is ok? Both tubs look the same. Day 7 since placed in tub. Thanks

Looks great. How often are you misting?
The spikey  look is a good thing from what I understand. And signifies knotting is close to starting.
Great job!

Haven’t misted, keeping tubs closed until I place into fruiting. Ever since I’ve been able to see the first myc through the sub it’s been standing up like that. Wasn’t sure, last attempt looked nothing like this time.

Fruit that sucker! It’s ready.  And your surface conditions look great, give try at baby some fae and keep the surface conditions just like that you should have a great flush

You think it’s ready? It’s only been 7 days, what I’ve read mentioned 10. But as I mentioned I’m new to this. Last tub that failed when I fruited, all I did was move it to cooler spot, turn a fluorescent 12/12, and flipped the lid upside down. I haven’t drilled holes in tubs. Maybe fan a bit if needed. That sound good for these too?

Most people fruit right away now, no waiting at all.

That looks really good especially for seven days.

The spikes are just rhizo mycelium, but they’re also good for holding water drops.

Cool, really appreciate the replies. Lots of conflicting info to rifle through when starting out. I assumed the entire surface needed to be solid white and fluffy like I see most people have. I have very little of that, just the stringy rhizo growth.

No that’s definitely colonized and showing excellent growth, increase fae and mist as needed. Good luck!!!
