Hunting for ovoids in SE OHIO

Hello y'all. I'm new to hunting to say the least. I've been doing some research and found ovoids are my best bet for finding mushrooms. I've been looking along rivers and in riparian zones and havent found anything yet. Am I too early?
We have had alot of warm days, cool nights with rain here and there. The last 3 days have been the first it's been in the upper 60s to 70s and raining each night. So I figured they'd pop up. I'm afraid I'm looking in the wrong spots. Like just how common are they. I've been going out about twice a week to different spots.
Should I be looking at large body inlets, or outlets. Near Rivers or lakes? Would they be likely to grow out of a small creek at the start of the watershed just outside my house? I have some pictures of areas I've been hunting to see if they look right to you. Going to try and get them uploaded soon.
I know there are alot of questions, sorry if it's too much. I just dont want to be looking to late, or waste my time looking in the wrong spots when I could be looking elsewhere.
I've read alot of past threads and people had been finding them by the beginning of april. Which is another thing that makes me think I'm in the wrong spot Kind regards

The place i found them at in SE ohio was was sides of a small stream near where it meets a larger river.
I think you are still too early in the season. I haven't seen a report from Ohio yet. I plan on visiting the place I found them last year in SE ohio tomorrow, but honestly not expecting to find them yet. It was middle of May when I found them last year.
I found them fast on the first day I went looking in SE ohio after striking out for 2 years looking in central ohio. So you should be in the right area if SE ohio near the Ohio River.

I'm not near the ohio river. I'm looking on the hocking river between logan and athens. Would that still be a good place or do I need to get to an inlet on the Ohio river?

Forget about the river and creeks and hit the landscaping areas that use mulch in places like business parks, city parks, churches, anywhere there is woodchips mulch and even better if if has irrigation.
You can look along creeks and rivers but most are being found in landscaping areas, getting out and looking is the only way to find'em.

I went to the SE ohio spot near the WVA border to check on a spot I found them last year and nothing yet. They did chip more trees and left the chips laying around. So I think still too early for us. Its goign to be cold for a while, but maybe on the next warmup plus rain we will get in on the action.
Here is what the natural habitat looks like i found them at. Most where on the left side the stream in the pic. Looks like every few years they chip trees in this spot for whatever reason.

So with this cold snap ohio is having, how is that going to effect growth? If any?

Not likely to be good =( but I don't know how far back it will push things. Supposedly got down to 30f last night... ugh... was up to 74 a couple days ago. I put a towel over a couple of the mulch that are near the house. I kinda slept in today but didnt notice any frost when I got up.
