Yard mushrooms identification (Coprinus comatus / shaggy mane)
    #26585431 - 04/08/20 02:08 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Those two specimens popped up after colder weather and rain.
Specimen 1 next to kitchen drain (day 1--day 2--day 3):

Specimen 2 on a lawn (day 2--day 3):

What are these and what can I do with them?
Location: South Africa highvelt

Looks like Coprinus comatus or Shaggy mane.  I'd love to have a culture on agar.  It is supposed to taste good. It is also supposed to be good for people with a certain kind of leukemia.  If it disintegrates into black ink within the next few days it definately is shaggy mane.

Should I pick it up now and clone?
Can I put them in the fridge till evening?

EDIT: few hours later they started to disintegrate so I harvested them and put in the fridge. I'll try to clone them on agar.

Great I hope you will succeed.
You are in South Africa. I used to live and work in Leribe/Lesotho from 1992 to 1996. It was great.

I was reading around about these mushrooms, there are few threads where people actually grew them indoors. But I was thinking to colonize some straw and just bury it around the house.

Years ago I had some growing in my compost bin on straw with chicken poo from my chicken coop.  But I was always too late to pick one.  They are a pest for agaricus farmers. Much luck.

Yes, now it's very clear which specie this mushroom is.
Another one starting to disintegrate:

And there are about 7 very small ones around this one, just after the nice night rain.

All 3 pieces became goo, but 2 of them eventually started to grow a bit.
