Nostalgia * 4
    #26584887 - 04/07/20 07:52 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

Through my life I've lived in loads of great places. Wonderful towns and cities, beautiful scenery with great friends and family.

Maybe now I'm getting old I guess. My current place looks beautiful, everything seems fine, my family is great, but I am filled with nostalgia and longing for those times and places passed.

Anyone else get this?

Yes all of the time.

I'm really happy that I can still enjoy the location that I'm in at the moment. It's really beautiful and unique. There isn't a way that I can stay here for that much longer. I'm hopeing to go somewhere else to be with family, I'm just hoping that I'll have the privilege to miss this location in a good way, one day.

A lot of people from here dont see how beautiful it is, right here. I used to be one of them. It's not the most special place in the world, but it's really nice. Especially on the shore. I'm really happy that I've learned to appreciate it. I can guarantee you, most they would tell you they hate it here.

I love bringing some of the people who are fresh to Canada to this location. They really see it. Not because they arent Canadian, maybe it's because they arent from here. So it's new and fresh. They talked about it all day one time.

Nothing wrong with appreciating the past, especially if you appreciate and are satisfied within reason of your present circumstances.  Remembering their memories in light of your current situation can smooth out perspective.  Nostalgia is good when in perspective- a check on the status quo of ones one life; or, it can fuel ones effort to come out of it, and Lastly,  when out of perspective- it can lend a hand to self defeating endeavors.

I get it.  Iโ€™ve gotten it the hard way too - donโ€™t follow me!  :kingcrankey:

I definitely have nostalgia from time to time, especially about childhood.

But mostly i have "regretful" nostalgia such as: I wish i did this or didnt do that back then or i wish i said this or didnt say that back then. Lots of regrets about the past that I wish i could travel back in time and change. But im stuck with the memories i wish i could just change slightly. Regretful nostalgia is the worst. I try not to think about it and just move forward in life....

I was looking at a map today of a city where I used to live. As I followed the roads around there was so many memories associated with that place and the stuff I got up to while I was there. So many good times, so much fun. Much chaos and drug taking but many parties, great friends and amazing music as well.
I know if I went back it would all be different, but it's like a swelling feeling in my chest. Part good, part bad, a very mixed emotion. Something that is lost that I'll never have back, but something that was great that I experienced as well.

Briefly.

Then I'm zapped back into now.

Not sure if I want to hold onto those feelings or not, so I just let them flow.

Its a weird feeling huh? Feels almost like a dream, something thats real but will never be repeated again. Its own unique experience, lost ro the sands of time....

According to my Pleiadian Spiritual books, everyone relives their entire life from birth to death when they die. Its called a Life Review. Ive been playing around and randomly saying to myself "Put that in the Life Review!". Ita pretty fun. I really hope its true so i can relive those awesome moments from my early life.

Yeah I get that.  After so many occurrences Iโ€™ve focused on trying to enjoy where Iโ€™m at, because I will be moving again:facepalm:  Whatโ€™s weird is getting that nostalgia for a place that at the time you werenโ€™t really feeling like you enjoyed.  So I just try to absorb myself into where Iโ€™m at and enjoy it while I got it.

Another thing thatโ€™s weird is if you ever make it back to one of those places after a good amount of time and it feels like all those memories were from a different life.  Itโ€™s always different, but the same, but different.....but still same..

All life experience ultimately ends up a memory.  1 second ago, yesterday, and ones current life up to now a memory.  Hell, the present might as well just be a memory too.  Weirdly strange:patlal:

I still live in the same neighborhood I grew up in

Everything's different though. The street used to be alive... kids playing everywhere, there were one or two houses on the street where all the adults would hang out in the front yards. Everyone had gardens and would be sharing things. Parties and cookouts all the time, pick up soccer and wiffle ball games at the park with the parents and the kids.

Now it's a ghost town, everyone sitting inside watching TV and scrolling through facebook. I haven't talked to a single person on my street since I saw one on new years.

Definitely miss the old days. Glad I got to experience it, I just feel like we're all missing out on something that used to exist, but it's been lost

Amen, I recall things being the same as you mention throughout the 90s and early 2000s.  Now itโ€™s like a ghost town, without the ghosts.
Still, there are places where community is still thriving.  Sadly, not so much in my immediate vicinity in the states.  Guadalajara and Mexico City Mexico, and Okayama Japan, and a few places in CT and upstate NY are the only places I know of atm where I can jump right into the mix when visiting.  Itโ€™s a quality that is sorely missed and invaluable.  Tech addiction is real.

I get nostalgic here and there, sometimes too often and daydream half the day. I don't see it as a hindrance to myself. Logical stated a regretful nostalgia. I have that more often. The thing is that one can not change the past no matter how hard one thinks about it, one can only hope to change their future by decisions made today. It's also better to regret something one has done, than hasn't done (mostly, I'm sure there are regrets well founded, with me for sure). I LOVE nostalgia as Z stated. Memories and such are helpful when making decisions on things currently happening. I sometimes think about if I could not get any internet service for about 20 years and then got access again and came back here to read the stuff I posted. That would be awesome. Even reading these things 20 years from now if I'm still active will be awesome. This thread made me think of a few songs.

YES. almost daily. I will not only get smells and sounds that trigger it but I will also get random "feelings" of nostalgia from time to time that have no known triggers. It is strange for sure.

Yes! certain songs and certain smells, forgot about those triggers. I've smelled things that reminded me of my grandmas house and when I was 5-7yo.
