2psi steel drum steam sterilizer hypothetical question

So as it says hypothetical question here...So let's say you had a 2psi steel drum steam sterilizer and you were able to run it in a very energy efficient way. Can you use it to sterilize jars of rye berries by running it longer? 2psi steam reaches temps of around 230°F so couldn't you just
run it for 8hrs and they would be sterilized to the same quality a pressure cooker would achieve?

They usually cook grain bags for 8-10 hours sometimes even longer. I guess it would be similar if you use jars, but they insulate better, so might be longer to get the core to the right temperature.

Cool thanks for the feedback here. It just seems like a better way to sterilize lots of spawn rather than say having 5 giant All American cookers lol

I think Ted might have said he runs his for 24 hours, I can't remember.
An AA 941 can fit 18 4lb bags apparently, If I'm remembering correctly. Unless you are planning to do serious bulk, as in multiple hundreds of pounds of grains per month, then owning a drum doesn't seem worth it to me. Depending on where you live it may be sketchy to own as well since you will likely need to put it outside, or have a proper ventilation system going or you will have water raining down from the ceilings in your house.
I currently do decent bulk with a couple prestos and some elbow grease
Hundreds of pounds of grains on a continuous basis is a lot of growing, a lot of tubs, a lot of spent subs, so it takes all the proper planning to achieve success.
If you got the means to do it, it can be worth while but, for the average dude I think a drum sterilizer is prob overkill

This is very true. I also don't think a drum would be necessary to do bulk. I only have one AA925 and I can easily cook 50-100bags in a few days. Most of the work for me is preparing the tubs, harvesting and getting rid of spent subs. As said above, the key is proper planning.

I've played around with this and it can be done somewhat successfully. If you want it to be done dependably you have to still sterilize your grain masters properly and then use a heavy g2g ratio to the steam sterilized bags. Also you cant continue to g2g after that g3 bag with dependable results
Edit. I've only tried this with steam sterilized bags done 24hrs. Not 2psi bags at 8hrs
