The only hunting technique that I can recommend is to get out and look, that's it, know your target species and keep looking until you find them. Where are you in this small world of ours?

what species are you hoping to find? If you're looking for Psilocybe cubensis, instead of hitting the pastures, look in the compost piles. I think I have only seen 1-2 cubensis finds from that state.

Gymnopilus aeruginosus, Gymnopilus junonius (after June) , Gymnopilus luteofolius (also after June) , Panaeolus cinctulus (continuously looking in my fertilized lawn) , Psilocybe caerulipes (after June) , Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata (been looking in mulch outside my forest yard, but as you can see there is wild mulch next to freshwater by my backyard. Nothing)...and Psilocybe caerulescens (after June) ...
I was hoping to find Gym in the forest , ovoids, or the cinctulus in the yard as the other species per the descriptions don’t come till June...
I’ve been doing a fair bit of research and narrowing down habitats but like I said the forest I’m dealing with I feel like is extremely difficult to spot with the leaves.

I think your best bet is to look for cinctulus or maybe cubensis. Not sure if ovoids are found in Carolina.

You can probably find some voids, but you’d be better off going to somewhere that has horses and looking for pans, they are not that hard to find. Gyms will be easier to find in the fall.
