Brf+coir shoeboxes/small tubs and surface conditions

Hey fellow shroomers, I'm trying to improve on my little tubs method and hopefully get some advice/tips.
These are just a few of the tubs(Brf golden teachers) that were made on 24/03 and left to colonise for 11 days, yesterday I put them into fruiting conditions. Brf cakes mixed with coir 1:2 ratio and roughly 1/4inch to 1/2 inch coir 'casing layer' put on top at the same time.
1. I've read alot of stuff and all the big websites contradic alot of what the other sites agree on visa versa. Some say they let entire tub colonise including the casing layer before putting to fruiting... Others say there's a sweet spot where you let it colonise the subsurface layer of the casing layer then put to fruiting and the extra FAE/loss of co2 will stop the rest of the casing layer colonising and thus allowing it to retain its water holding abilities and still act as a true 'casing layer'.
2. I'm noticing with these small tubs the casing layer dries out ontop within a day or 2 of no Misting, should I aim to keep the casing layer fully Hydrated by Misting but not soaking wet ofc? I can't achieve the 'surface conditions' of lots of beads of water ontop because the coir casing just absorbs all the water.
This is the tubs today.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Most of the beads are caused by the mycelium on the surface increasing surface tension coupled with mycelium "sweat".
In other words, that surface can be moist without beads sitting on top for long. The mycelium will create a barrier that is not as absorbant as pure coir and therefore what you spray will sit on top a lot longer, displaying beads.
Manipulate FAE to keep the surface moist.
How do you keep the tub colonizing vs fruiting?

Like was already said you’re in the right moisture zone just a little on the dry side.
Sometimes with a thicker top layer the myc doesn’t colonize the surface. That’s what’s going on with yours for the most part. It’s right underneath and mostly only knots poke through.
When that happens you won’t really get a lot of water beading up.
The beading should happen on its own as the myc runs the surface of the coir.
I kinda like when only the knots show, keeps everything protected. And it does seem to happen more often with golden teachers ime.

I've put the lids on with less of a gap will check the surface daily and see if they don't dry out as fast.
When it's colonising the lids are on properly with some holes/micropore tape on top and for fruiting I just crack the lid abit to let more air in. Though I've read that some folks don't crack the lid open until they have a nice pinset going... But that would allow the entire casing layer to fully colonise wouldn't it?
Thanks for all the info guys makes more sense now

you seem to be mistaking casing layers for a top layer of coir and verm. a casing should never fully colonize or it in effect is no longer a casing. that being said what AKA said is on point. your tubs look fine but I would give them a spritz for good measure;). maximize airflow while maintaining moisture. therein lies the balance

My knee jerk reaction is fuck no don’t fork your sub, but I’ve never actually tried it.
Gonna do an experiment with it sometime but I’d still recommend not raking the surface.
It used to be a thing but I’m sure there’s a reason it’s not done anymore.

This is old info.
NO Fork!
It's the equivalent to me saying watch when I plant this seed in magical dirt and stick a copper rod next to it in a few days a baby tree will grow.
The tree is gonna grow with or with out the copper rod. If you follow me on the scratching.

Would you say my casing/top layer are colonised too much? I think they are.
How does the mycelium know what's substrate and what's a casing, I understand that real casings are applied after colonisation but before knotting(so it can form primordia underneath the top layer)
But with the method Im using some shrooms pop up from underneath the coir while others knot and grow on the top layer
