Shoebox surface condition question

Hey all
I have about 7 shoeboxes that were spawned about 6 days ago.
The surface does not there any much beads of moisture yet, and I do not want to mist until it starts pinning.
Is this a safe assumption?
I had to squeeze out excess water from coir during spawning that ways its not overly wet.
When does surface condition begin? I would say my boxes are about 80% I think

Pictures please. Hard to say via text. When the surface is right you can mist to allow evaporation to occur and stimulate pinning.

Variety is RW by the way, I don't think that would matter

Do the pics look like its coming along ok?
Should I let it pin then do a bottom water?
The lids are snapped on, was gunna loosen the lids when it starts to pin

Mist them. They are ready. And I have found anecdotal evidence of RW being slow like PE slow in my experience so far.

Thanks Sockadin.
I will do a misting from high above to let the mist settle down

Since I misted yesterday, tiny beads of moisture are now on the surface.
How fast do I want it to evaporate?
Should I force it to evap faster by adding little more fae? or should I just let it be and mist if it evaps as is?
I guess my question is, do I want to be forcing the evaporation as soon as possible or is it ok to keep the beads of moisture for as long as possible?

There should be water beading on it naturally at this point, sub might be on the dry side.
I’d definitely give it some light mist, gotta get some evaporation happening.
Normally once the myc starts colonizing the surface water will just start to bead up on it which is how people can get away without misting at all.

Gotcha, so I will just let it naturally evaporate off then. Then mist when beads are gone Thanks!

I know these guys are saying a light mist is a good idea, but I find this limiting and more demanding of your time. Sorry for the book but I feel context is important.
Consider the idea of sidepins. They are stuck under the damn substrate..those sidepins actually tell you WHICH CONDITIONS ARE MORE FAVORABLE. It's all isolated underneath, and droplets are ALL OVER the walls from condensation. Mushies WANT that... get it? I've done this light misting shit and it doesn't really cut it as well as having thicker droplets. My best flushes are always done from thick droplet layers. Another Upside? You don't need to mist more than once every couple days.
A point I like to remind people of, PF TEK CAKES GET SOAKED OVERNIGHT FFS. Don't be afraid to let the droplets increase in size, as long as it's NOT POOLING THE WATER (you can use corners of paper towels to soak pooling water by just barely sticking it into the water, no pressure onto the mycelium.
Please understand you need to create a more consistent humidity for pin generation. If you're constantly letting it get dried out, and reapplying, that's inconsistent... It's potentially distressing.
When you mist, use ultrafine mist, aim up and away above the substrate. Let the micro droplets waft down onto your substrate all gentle like. DO NOT AIM AT THE FUCKING SUBSTRATE. This will cause it to mmat up and limit potential pin formation. If you do not have a sprayer that can do this, you may want to buy a different one.
I feel like the true understanding of the purpose of evaporation is a bit lost on most people. YOURE MAKING A MICRO-CLIMATE. The water droplets evaporate, yes, but it's to increase the humidity close to the substrate/mycelium, so as to have a more constant and high level of humidity. MUCH LIKE WHAT THE SIDEPINS EXPERIENCE. The action of evaporation doesn't directly "stimulate" the mycelium really. these wordings are bastardized understanding of it being repeated and echoed without much consideration for wtf they're actually saying. Mycelium cares about 2 things: Fresh air, and high humidity. THATS IT.
Pins abort when the humidity drops. How do you avoid this? DON'T LET THE FUCKING DROPLETS DISAPPEAR. THATS SUCH TERRIBLE ADVICE. They will SHRINK when done proper. You mist to replenish this. AGAIN, DO NOT LET THE DROPLETS DISAPPEAR, THIS IS RETARDED. "I let it dry out? Hurrrrr" This implies the relative humidity is so low that the droplets become exacerbated. Fluctuations in humidity is not beneficial. It is distressing to the myc.
So, this is what it should look like

This is after PULLING THE SPRAY BOTTLE TRIGGER 50-SOME-ODD TIMES! I have never had a problem when doing this, and again my best flushes began when I upped the droplets to this point. There also are other classic threads to back this up. None of this "stimulate your mushies" nonsense. You need to let them relax! Relax in a perfect, constant sub-tropical climate...
CONSISTENCY. NOT WAVERING BULLSHIT.
Minimal fresh air early on (but still provide frsyh air,. Not saying choke the fuckers) and this is to keep the humidity constant. When pinset is formed and more well established, you can increase fae.
Again, IF YOU MIST MORE THAN ONCE PER DAY OR TWO, YOURE DOING THIS WRONG, OR YOUR FAE IS TOO HIGH.
Questions?

I only misted once yesterday and I just took a peek at them and the water droplet beads are still glistening on the surface.
I was just originally under the impression to force the droplets to evaporate by adding more fae, which would force me to probably mist more often. But I am letting it ride out, meaning I am attempting to keep the surface with beads of droplets at all times.

I have a question. WTF are you smoking?
Yeah let me create the ideal climate for fruiting. Trigger an environmental response to stress or swings in RH.
Letsgetswifty are you saying that keeping RH up is more important than allowing fluctuation in your micro climate?

The way people are implying it should "dry out" makes it come across that the droplets should disappear. This is not good. It's retarded as shit. You don't have a micro-climate if they disappear. You will have wild swings in RH. Keep the humidity high by having thick droplets, and it will fluctuate within reasonable amounts as it evaporates, but not wild swings in the RH.
"Trigger an environmental response to stress"? What does this mean...? Stress is bad. This isn't shiitake or Azurescens. Cubensis is sub-tropical...
Yes, I'm saying it's important to keep the overall RH up high, so the micro-climate becomes CONSISTENT. Like when it's foggy and misty for days, mad mushies show up? That's what you're mimicking.
Sorry if I seem a bit off. I'm drunk.

Right, I didn't mean to say or come off as "dry it out", what was asking is, do I cause it to evaporate faster by upping the FAE while keeping the beads of moisture on the surface of the substrate? Or, do I keep the FAE down a bit and let the droplets evap on their own, without the force of more fae to cause more evaporation

You want to find a balance where it’s evaporating but stays wet, and you don’t need to mist more than once every few days if at all.
This is the tricky part, dialing it in and learning how tubs work in your grow room.

I ask because I have been successful in shoeboxes and monos before, but this is the first time where I am actively keeping up on dialing in the surface conditions.
Its one thing reading about it, but doing in practice forces me to ask.
I read that more FAE is best, the lids are now unlatched. But, if I force more FAE, the beads will evaporate faster, causing more misting. Is this ok to do? I am home due to damn COVID-19, so I do not mind extra misting if that means forcing it to evaporate beads faster, or is it the same if I keep the fae at a minimum where the previous misting beads are on top of the surface longer. Sorry if I am unable to articulate better

I hear you man I went through the same thing.
Air is good as long as you can keep up conditions. So if you’re willing and able to babysit it you could open air fruit.
Like you said it’s one of those things you can read about all day but doesn’t help that much in practice. You’ll get a feel for it pretty quick.

Thanks AKA.
I was just rereading the proper surface conditions thread. I think I am going to keep the passive FAE down until it pins
Then when i see pins, I will unlatch the lids and up the FAE
I used 1q RW spawn 1q coir no top layer, coir was prepped a little on drier side

Yeah I tried that too and the same thing happened.
Once the surface dries past a certain point it gets all shiny looking and doesn’t hold water right.
Woof I do what you’re planning on too, once I see lots of knots I’ll jack up the air to try and increase pins.
