My friends seem to be arguing that these are edible or are libs. I personally think they are a Bolbitius species

They Are Not Psilocybe Semilanceata (Liberty Caps). Liberty Caps Do Not Grow Wildy In Louisiana.
They Don't Look To Be Any Active Species. Can't Tell You If They Are Edible Or Not.

They are an Amanita species in sect. Vaginatae. If you check the base of the stem, you will find a sack-like volva surrounding it.
Please tell your friends they won't find liberty caps in Louisiana.

The weird cap kinda reminds me of inocybes i use to find in Germany. But yeah i agree with you that they don't look like any edible or psychoactive mushrooms that I'm aware of. Thanks for the identification anglerfish i kinda knew they weren't libs because of the time of the year lol

there are edible mushrooms in Amanita sect. vaginatae, but not any psychoactive mushrooms.
