Anybody ever used agar and water to clean up a culture. Just agar and water? I recently heard of someone doing this and for the life of me can’t find it. I’d like to know the science or process behind it. TIA

Without any nutrients? I don't think it'll work.

My thoughts exactly, and I know we can use an antibiotic agar. It sounds too basic to be true, but ya never know. I've seen people drop myc on poo (p. cyans) and skip the grain entirely here.

Maybe grain soak water is what you saw? There needs to be some kind of nutrient added to the agar or else you're basically gonna have non-nutritive gelatin instead of anything useful.

would more than likely be from a transfer, the mycelium could use the nutes from original plate. Ive a buddy who swears it works, I'll post results.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19739087 Not sure if van used any karo in this experiment, but you'll prolly get something. If you're dealing with bacteria that you can't get rid of, ive heard of people using antibiotics in there agar, if it's mold, usually you just need to transfer fast before the mold spores you transfer sporulate. I don't know that there is much advantage to using no-nute agar for cleaning a culture though. I think nutes will give more vigorous mycellial growth that will help you outpace mold sporulation when doing transfers.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I know this is an older thread but I'm curious if you've seen this video on, in part, water agar. Any thoughts? [embed=640,360]https://embed]

There is another thread on it. Basically, you can clean up mycelium by using WA to slow bacteria from growing faster than the mycelium. Helps to get a clean culture. There is a video on water Agar by "Fresh from the farm Fungi".
