It came to me in a dream, and when I looked online, I found it. Has anyone used such a thing? https://www.amazon.com/Robbins-Instruments-Disposable-Biopsy-Punches/dp/B00JRK87QS

Those are pretty cool. But honestly you can do the same thing with a needle. Just poke the agar with the needle then squirt it onto another Piece of agar. You literally only need one cell of the myc and it’ll transfer and grow. Someone here has a tek on it but I can’t remember who.

If you can sterilize and re-use them I guess they'd be pretty cool. If not, paying $2 per transfer is gonna add up fast.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Theres a user over on the FB group named Misty. She uses leather punches. But I wouldn't use that thing, especially since its disposable, and since you can cut a wedge faster and re use the scalpel.

I imagine a larger sample would colonize faster. Am I mistaken? Or, is there a tradeoff in colonizing faster?

A larger sample would provide more chance for contamination to be taken along with.
A grain of rice is all that's needed, and I've gotten away with far less.
Especially if going for an isolate, I would imagine an extremely small sample would be more desirable than a larger one.

I have tried biopsy punches and cork borers. Scalpel is the way I prefer.

I don't see why I couldn't stick them in a quart jar and sterilize them in the PC. I doubt they would melt. Tho maybe there are parts in them that would. I will order some next time I get some money in my mycology budget and let ya'll know how it goes.

Demonic uses the punch too cuz he likes the perfect circles lol.
I also prefer scalpel, it took some getting used to but it’s nice to have the versatility once you get it down.

I am using a real scalpel now, but when I started I used a nail cuticle tool. kinda flattened it out and then it was just 3 stabs to make the cut in the shape of a triangle and the transfer piece was easily scooped up and moved. Down side was how short the tool was so your hand is easy to get over top of your dish, scalpel puts me at a safe distance

Based on the information ya'll have offered, I decided to go ahead and order some blunt tip luer lock needles instead of the biopsy punches. They are much less expensive and will allow me to take smaller samples for transfer.

Leather punch like d3monic uses is just like that except much cheaper. I'm definitely getting one when I cam afford it, I love those perfect little circles!
