Grain/Sawdust Mix for Cyanescens?
    #26577385 - 04/04/20 02:20 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Guys,

I currently have cyanescens mycelium happily colonizing half pint jars consisting of equal parts vermiculite, BRF, sawdust and water.  Before I mix the spawn with fermented alder chips in a Sterilte tote outside on my deck, I’m going to put some mycelium on agar plates and ultimately on slants.

In the future, I plan to use agar wedges to colonize quart jars of grain.  It seems that most people transfer their cyanescens agar wedges to quart jars filled exclusively with grain.  But since cyanescens is a wood-lover, wouldn’t mycelial growth be enhanced by mixing sawdust or small wood chips with the grain, as I’m doing with my half pint jars?  If so, what proportions of grain to sawdust or chips is recommended?

Or are there reasons why it’s not a good idea to mix sawdust or wood chips in with the grain in quart jars?  Please advise.

Thanks,

Tom

grain on its own is loaded with nutrients and easy to expand via g2g, much more difficult when you put substrate in the jars.

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn

So you're saying that sawdust or wood chips simply aren't needed during the initial colonization, right?

Thanks.
