Possible brown contamination on BRF cakes
    #26578698 - 04/05/20 04:21 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

hey

I was just wondering if this is contamination?
They are about 2 weeks in from inoculation.
They BRF/verm mix was too moist when I put it together.

Definitely too wet.. nothing good is going to come from that.. not sure if it’s contaminated but the myc is going to have a hell of a time colonizing that substrate.. I’d start over

Have you grown this way before?  Is there no dry verm barrier?  What tek are you following?

unfortunately starting over again is not really an option. Do not have the materials or time. I am moving in a months time.

Yes theres a dry vermiculite layer on top. Its just the BRF/verm mix is too wet.

I bought it as part of a kit and just followed the instructions that came with it, but it looks like I added too much water.

I see.  Well.. let er ride!  Like I said, it’s hard to tell if that brown is contamination or something in the mix (verm maybe).. if the brown gets bigger, you’ll know that it is a contam

Will do!
I have 3 containers of them. In all of them they are showing the brown in the colonized parts but some more than others.

Would letting them colonize as much as possible and then cutting away parts that are not colonized/contaminated be an option?
