So what’s going on out there in the real world with rent/mortgage?

I’m curious how people are handling being told they can’t work yet still owing rent/house payments. I know they’re sending out a check, but one that won’t come anywhere near handling your average rent/house payment as well has a snowball’s chance in hell of showing up on time to do any benefit. I’m sure a large number of people are in a very fucked up spot so, how is that being handled?

I'm sussed rent for me is 115 (nzd) a week I'm on pretty much paid vacation and one of my flatmates got a 4.5k payout from the gov for being a contractor last year. For the past 8 months he has been on welfare n has proven to drink n play video games mostly and barely leave the house. but hey he's sharing the food and beer. now I have lots of free time why not enjoy it. Landlord usually lives with us but is staying at his wife's house during the lockdown doing up his wife's house. he hooks us up hard with free meat and is pretty easy going guy loves to have a laugh. we just finished painting plastering the lounge n kitchen so no issues here I'll pay my rent because I'm grateful to have such a good living situation but I could with hold it to be funny and joke around but nah I'm not an asshole I'd feel bad taking advantage of the status I've earned in my current situation. I've lived pretty fucking rough before and lived in nice places with a bunch of cunts so yeah no issues here buddy.

A lot of banks are putting freezes on mortgages if people ask. If they call too many defaults at once there will be a housing market crash that will snowball and eventually cause banks to collapse as well.
I feel for people who are renting and have less astute landlords. If they evict their tenants they may just find their property empty for a significant amount of time.
Harsh times hey.

I have no idea what will happen next month. I'm still employed and work remotely, my roommate got laid off and is in complete isolation out in the boonies with her grandfather, who has health issues already. I can cover rent on my own, but at the cost of neglecting some medical bills.
My property management company seems open and willing to help people, and if I need to they'll let me defer payment using my security deposit. I'm trying to avoid that for now, though.

I've been laid off for two weeks and just got the call for two weeks more. I've frozen my car payment, my student loans, and my mortgage. Between my tax refund, the stimulus, and unemployment I'll pay all my credit card debt off in the next few weeks. From there it's just keep the gas, water, electricity, car insurance, cell phone, and food on the table.
Assuming things start opening back up in May, and I head back to work, I may actually come out of this ahead of where I was before it all. Kind of crazy when I think about it. I am lucky that my home business is still doing very well for the time being.
I also have a 3m half mask respirator, so I was thinking about maybe doing some Door Dash if I need some extra cash flow as I can safely do that.

Yeah I feel for those that can't make ends meet, I know this may seem cold but my belief is that tough times make tough people. We live in abundance here in NZ I hear* (could be wrong) that it's the same situation in America I mean we will live right? There's enough food? Rent sucks and all but you can't get blood out of a stone and cops/enforcers are humans too and I hope they recognise their own humanity and therefore vulnerability in such an unexpected/unforeseen circumstance before evicting people during this situation. Know your enemy we are all competing with a virus. Human v human competition has kindof been put on hold, if you want to put things in true perspective (if you even lived like that I know some do) we humans are one structure/organism.. rent, ownership Hmmm what do you call it, I'll try describe, it dosent really exist except in our minds, on paper and recorded etc. It doesn't fight for itself yet any/almost any human I would try to insist to them dosent exist should rightly fight/react to let me know they do. I'm not trying to say dodge rent but you can see we're in tough times any "person"(not company[get the owners name) demanding rent that you can't pay that quite honestly is no fault of your own (come on) just out them if your honest about really being broke as fuck and can prove it on paper, who of our fellow human beings would see you kicked out on the fucking street or not take you in? Does that shit really happen in times like this? If it does the power balance looks bad but we have law more importantly human community (the oldest law), I have more faith in humanity than that but maybe I'm an idealist. I take courage in the knowledge that humans have overcome tragedy before and more often than not they tend to help each other in dire circumstances but often not in a panic/competition situation... I tend to believe that this situation could be easy from a certain perception but I'm crazy and have it easy yet I wouldn't wish my mindstate on anyone haha. Ive made it this far as my existence will show, I will survive because I choose to overcome my challenges, right attitude? Good character? opportunities open up.. gotta really be low to give up. the will to die is alot weaker than the will to live. Love is incomparably stronger than fear. some shitty virus is a comparitevely short lived weak inferior lifeform compared to humans. Main thing is I'm sure humanity will survive aslong as we work as a unit (as best we can) because we're pretty powerful and the more energy/cells/units the better. Not being a comedian here but love hope resilliance unity, also I'm rather conservative usually but as Randy would say: hey fuck you. I imagine myself a big dumb giant clumsily walking through the forest scooping up some sentient life forms consuming them and not feeling bad about it whatsoever it might seem cruel but consider no (true) harm was done? you may be confused it is an honour to play this game. if anyone may think they know better than nature/...<fill in the three space word tell me all about it and I'll try provide shitty counsel and or moral support but I'll keep saying the problem is your perception/attitude, maybe education? and I hope if I ever get lost/confused someone will say the same to me untill I get angry/provoked enough to improve my situation. Contradict myself much? Please point out my hypocrisy it's loads of fun being humbled. Roasting welcomed. Philosophical debate also.
