How do people continously identify this species as Psilocybe cubensis? No disrespect to the original poster, it's something that I have seen a lot and can't understand the confusion because they have 2 separate substrates, one is a dung lover and the other is a wood lover

I figured they were not. I definitely knew that cubes grow on or near dung. It was just the similarity between the two was very close. The gold caps. The size. And those black spores. Will admit I’m new to this stuff. Thank you all for such quick responses!

They actually grow directly from dung from animals that are able to spread the spores through their dung and the stomach not break them down, such as cows and some other mammals. And the spore print is a purple-brown rather than completely black. Also the stem in a psilocybe cubensis is much thicker than the coprinellus, and really the cubensis mushroom itself is not as fragile as the coprinellus are. With that said welcome to the Shroomery and the wonderful world of Fungi!

Just so you know, Psilocybe cubensis doesn't have a black spore print, it just looks like it, but they're actually purplish, only appears to be black.
edit: corrected my terribly broken sentences. must have had a brain fart whilst typing
