That's funny D3m you went from popcorn one of the largest to millet one of the smallest.

I am working millet and it's pretty good. It's hard to beat oats because they prep so easy.
If I didn't have to boil feed corn for 45 minutes it would be my favorite.

I only did popcorn for a couple runs. I really like it, but it’s not cost effective and I cannot find it in bulk locally.

Oats for me. Cheap and easy. Wife hates the way they smell though. Theres nothing else readily available with a comparable price for me.

That's so funny: my wife was so happy since I switched (for the time being) from barley to oats because she likes the smell soooooooo much better.  Almost got reassigned to the shed with WBS and barley both but oats she's fine with.

Works great for me with the oats right meow because instead of going to the feed store,  I just drive a couple miles to my local grocery store that happens to have a feed section for farm animals.  I throw 50-100lbs at a time in with my milk and eggs and baddaboom baddabing :sunny:

Did you ever try feed corn? Any hunting or farm store will have it around $7 to $10 for 30 to 50lbs. Walmart even carries it around me during hunting season.

Same prep boil for 45 mins just a few more sticks and such than popcorn. Colonizes, shakes and everything all the same just a slightly smaller less plump kernel.

I like it as much as popcorn it just takes a long prep.

My wife says that it smells like dog vomit lol. I think it's a mixture of the distilled vinegar and the oat smell.

Feed Corn takes way longer to hydrate than 45 mins to get it to proper hydration. I recommend soaking for 24-36 hrs with potassium metabisulfite.

I don't even remember if I posted in here but wheat all day for me. $15/50lbs from the local feed store. I ran out at one point last month and used an old bag of oats leftover from when I used those. For the same price, roughly the same time in prep, wheat is just better.

Wild bird seed    Bought two 40# bags in the spring, somewhere around $20 each.

I don't get the hate Brown rice gets. It's by far my most used grain type. Easy to prep and it seems like it's resistant to bacteria compared to the other grain types I've tried (Rye, Millet, Wbs)

Some people argue that rice is a bitch to shake up because it clumps and sticks together. I've been using long grained basmati rice and never really had that issue.

My last three 12qt shoeboxes produced 187g over 3 flushes. Threw them away after that. They never contammed

Basmati rice vs wbs prices, pretty much a no Brainer.

Maybe it's because they feed corn I bought was barely bigger than a piece of Milo? I've only ever prepped that one bag.

I have read where someone did a 24 hour soak and brought it to a boil to steam dry. The grain looked really nice and plump with a squishy starch core.

It also makes me wonder if corn wouldn't be good for stones, the main complaints of oats for stones is picking out the hulls

I've seen a few posts out there comparing feed corn to other grains, and the nutrients provided from it makes for a bit stunted of a grow.

I've read that before too, however I'm my limited experience it's not true.

I've only ever ran one 50 lb bag so take it with a grain of salt. My first flush yields were the same as oats. They ran out  4 plus flushes no problem. I usually run into the substrate being gross crater filled mess before I ever have ran out of nutrition. While I'm sure it's technically true that other grains carry more nutrients, I think it's a situation where practically it dosnt matter.

I guess, but i'll gladly pay 10bucks extra to not have to rinse and pick out all those fucking shells. dirt and twigs and other nonsense from WBS. Where i live i can easily get hold of a 44 pound (20kg) bag of brown Basmati rice for 30 bucks. Lasts me for a good long while.

Recently I heard you need not pick out the sunflower seeds and extraneous carp from wild bird seed.    In the next couple of months, I should know whether that's true or not.

I used to use oats religiously but my supplier was low one day and I switched to Red Winter Wheat - best choice ever. The grain gets so plump and soft on the outside. IMO, it's comparable to rye berries. I def highly recommend wheat if you can find it at a good price. $15-20 for a 50lb bag for me. :yesnod:
