We were just told 40% of the department is getting the boot and I’ve only been in this position for 8 months...chances are I’m fucked...seniority is a bitch.
So, yeah, I’m good for a couple of weeks and then idk. No way I’ll find a job with 10m people looking.
No savings, lotsa debt. If I can’t find something soon I’ll have to relocate.

Here's an important message for those who will run out of options.
Think of what you'll do after you've ran out of options now. That way when it happens, you won't stress about it. You'll know what to do.

i guess I shouldn't complain that I'm an essential employee too much. Good luck out there guys, may you come out the other side stronger/wiser and more prepared for any other shocks.

This is a funny statement. Think of what your option will be when you have no options. 😂

I'm like $20,000 in debt from hospital bills. I'm not going to give them 1 dime. It's been years and it hasn't hurt credit score or prevented me from buying a house or anything yet. After a couple months they stopped asking for the money.
I'm very honest and probably one of the most honest people on this site and I'm not one to run out on any bill, but I got the hospital to itemize my bill and the prices were outrageous. Like almost $200 for socks and $100's of dollars for 1 dose of opiates. I could have got heroin and a whole pack of socks for under $20 and I told them that. I told them to give me an honest bill and I would be happy to pay it and that was the last I heard from them.

I'm OK. I was hoarding cash all year for an early retirement project thing . Changed my bills and stuff, won't spend more than $400.00 a month till I get employed again, or equip my cargo van for apocalypse style living and go do some adventure for a while. Would rather keep working and living like normal.

Im still working and my day-to-day life hasnt been affected too much...yet. Im still trying not to spend too much money. I suppose if the economy completely collapses then the lab will close and I'll lose my job, but at that point I don't really think my measly savings will matter that much anyhow

In my case a good portion of it(not all of it, but about half) is from a doctor's office that took all my insurance information and didn't tell me it wasn't accepted until like my third 300 dollar visit.
I really should call and bitch, but I'm soo bad at those kinds of things.
