First time with grains - ready for substrate?
    #26568610 - 03/31/20 08:20 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hi folks,

In addition to my BRF cakes I posted about having issues with, I also recently made my first attempt at inoculating grains.  Three different strains noc'd on March 12.  Since this is my first time with grains, I'm not sure if they're ready or not.  The grains are red winter wheat berries.  I read those were similar to rye and that's what I had at my local store.  Thanks in advance!

Those look pretty good but I'd wait a few more days till they get
a little whiter and thicker but that's just my preference.

Curious...what about now?  It almost seems as though they've lost some of the growth and that there is more brown than 3 days ago?

Yup they're good to go for sure now, they definitely grew more.
And probably grew more where you can't see in the center.

Looking good man! I use Red Wheat Berries as well and I love 'em. Got 'em at my grocery store when I was doing smaller grows but when I moved to monos, I found them at a much cheaper price at my local feed shop.
$15 for a 50lb bag:super:

Hello everyone.  Wanted to check back in with you on this.  Here's current progress.  I'm at Day 12.  I found a few gooey clear drops on the surface that I'm a bit concerned about.  You can see in the top of the photo.  Someone help me with determining what those are?  I also do not have transparent lids (they are white) and concerned about enough light reaching the surface.  Should that be problem?  I could always use the grocery bags or dubtub I suppose.  Appreciate people's help.

I'm sad that the pics went away.  I wanted to see what grains ready to spawn looked like.
