How do you dunk your shoeboxes?

First time I tried this I put some water in the shoebox, let it soak, then took the whole substrate brick out by hand so I could pour the water out. It was really hard not to break up the substrate, which I did a little.
Second time I let it soak, then tried to hold the substrate in place with the palm of my hand while I tilted the shoebox to drain it out. That time, it really broke and was got messed up but still produced some!
I'm curious how you all do it! Any thoughts appreciated!

Try doing this then (though wthout actually removing it unless you wanna re-line it, thats what this is for), just use a large sheet material of sorts like a glass panel, chopping board, etc and do the same but with pressure better distributed.

I just do like you and i hold it n tilt it, if it seems theres extra water still i just open the tub a bit more so it can evaporate away. Maybe try slidin another shoebox inside if theres no pins then it can more evenly distribute the weight as you tilt.
But id just listen to that smart guy up there^ get down spraying it

Do you mean instead of soaking it in a pool of water, just give it a heavy spray??

Yeah no real need to dunk a shoebox. You could always put a drain port into the boxes ahead of time with a bulkhead fitting and plastic ball valve. For my latest go around I decided to flush one and toss it outdoors. Mostly cause Covid and my limited supply of shoeboxes.

I don't have any issue with the substrate breaking. I used ShaperDreaming's tek on shoeboxes, similar to Bod's harvesting tek. Just tilt the shoebox over a drain to pour out the water and use my hand to hold the brick from falling out.
My substrate is 100% coir, maybe that's the difference. Also I'm guessing my mycelium works out a lot.
