Agar expiration
    #26574278 - 04/02/20 11:39 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hey what happens if my agar reaches its expiration date?
Will it no longer work right for our purpose?

I mean we aren't using it for food so does it even matter.

I'm stocked up on all my supplies and I won't end up using all the agar before some of it reaches that date. 4/2020

at that date it is no longer legally fit for human consumption.
bottled water also has an expiration date. its just because of legal shit. if this is lab agar, similar situation, manufacturer only guarantees its good within X date. pure chemicals like sodium chloride can come with expiration dates because some nonsense thing like, chemical plasticizers from the bottle can taint the salt with detectable levels of carbon.

Its all just legal shit to adhere to standards that apply to literally everything, any and all food items must be sold within X time of being made, theres a maximum time for everything and it doesnt always coincide with the actual expiration.

Ok, better example, table salt! table salt cant expire, even as a sopping wet salt slurry its never going to support any kind of biological life that could make you sick, and yet  the best before date will max out anywhere from 2-5 years of manufacture/packing.
