Spraying

Hi just a quick question about spraying once a day.... is it preferred that you spray the lid, or the surface of your substrate/casing?? Ty!

I spray lightly above the sub, so it falls down like a nice mist.
Not the lid.

you dont want water to pool on the surface, and rehydrating the surface with new water is never needed if you are doing it right, your FAE should not be so high your sub surface needs more water to perform adequately.
So, the answer is both do and dont do it.

If you have screwed up and need to rehydrate the surface, dont let the water pool, spray indirectly, and yes, also get the walls wet the same.
If everything is fine, and you just want to bump up the humidity, just spray the walls. some mist will land on the sub, which is fine but ideally you dont want that, after a certain point, contamination can happen and its likelyhood is proportional to how far beyond the point you have gone. At the same time too, contamination is also more likely from the stress alone of letting the sub reach that point, so, at no point is it risk free, aim to never need to so you dont have to, because you shouldnt.

I like to spray everything even the walls. I call wall-misting "sacraficial moisture" as it dries out and humidifies the air around the substrate (cakes in this case).

But most people just mist the substrate/casing layer.
