Hi mate, in coastal otago the psilocybe semilanceata generally grow well on sports fields, better at higher altitudes, just Google image search for reference. And the psilocybe subaeruginosa is generally found on rotting tree branches or wood chips, I've found mostly at the beach in grassy dunes where rotting scrub branches lay. Also on Forrest beds near the beach. Just image search for ref as there are many look alikes. I know Southland to provide in bulk, be patient, do your research. The semilanceata are my go to as the beach is further away then my fields. They are popn up right now, got a good handful today. Usually wait 1 day after rain and they seem to sprout through the grass up to 4 days after. The second day will usually be my best haul. This will happen until late july, you'll see numbers

A good way to pick the difference visually is to check for bluing around the stem after you pick them they bruise blue. Also could do a spore print to make sure and keep posting pics. When you get the good ones someone here will let you know

Subs are part of the cyanescens complex, often called 'caramel caps' for good reason. Caramel coloured cap. Crowded gills. Gills can be partially attached (adnexed) or not. No annulus (ring on stem). Uniform stem. Fluffy stem base.
Blueing is the main feature we all look for to confirm we have actives. This happens within an hour (usually minutes)
On a side note. . . If you bloody mainlanders are finding (detect the note of jealousy) take photos and start an official thread already!

Hey does anyone know when the Weraroa start popping up? From what I've read they seem to fruit later than the rest, is this correct? I'm in the lower north island and live not far from a reserve that is known to have them

Hey guys, I've been lurking on Shroomery for months and i feel I've learnt quite a bit but I've still had no luck finding any actives around my area, I'm based in otago and i know there's plenty around, might be a big ask but would anyone be keen to go hunting together?
