I am looking for feedback from experience you may have gained from similar circumstances.
Room Specs :
Room temp average 69-75+f [weather changes daily here] IR Surface temps 73-77 74 on average RH indoors Below 30%-50% [getting a humidifier tomorrow just for when i need to adjust the RH in the coming weeks]
Substrate, spawn and variety :
Golden Teacher Nutrina Racehorse Oats Eco earth Coir 650g bricks STA-GREEN Fine Verm on some tubs [wanted try coir by itself. ---------------------------------
Chit Chat : Scroll down til you see green for TLDR
Coming off a 3 year hiatus i jumped on the board and seen many new teks. After seeing bods teks and going through every page of the discussion I decided to take a shot at trying some oats and the 54q Sterlite Aqua unmoddofied tubs.
Ive always used millet [sometimes wbs] and opaque tubs with transparent Windowed tops with ridiculously great yields and very consistent results.
So needless to say after coming back and seeing people getting/using 50lbs of oats for $15 AND people using cool transparent unmodded tubs i was quite intrigued.
---------------------------
Operation Blue Aqua Opaque :
My goal was to do a slightly staggered run of unmodded tubs from oats and compare my results to a roughly equal amount of millet spawn & substrate etc but using my trusty ol outdated 2008 opaques lol
The cube variety for these particular tubs was a fresh-from-sponsor GT spore syringe.
The spores were put on agar first and afterwhile 2 liquid cultures were was made from assumingly clean and good looking 5th transfer agar wedges.
Each LC was tested clean on agar and a single millet jar.
Note** Previous 2 tubs before unmods
Lc#1 went to my first batch of oat jars spawned to 2 opaque tubs. Again, using 1st attempt oat quarts. Wasnt certain i had them properly prepared. They looked fine and came out of the Pc fairly dry without clumping, glass hugging and a nice rattle.
The oats took exceptionally long to colonize from lc. . I think it was 10 to 12 days. [My millet takes 4-7 tops]
One oat jar that didn't get used ending up leaking moisture against the glass and had those creamy bacterial spots.
Needless to say, a healthy spawn run was compromised but i rolled it out anyway.
Initial Oats to Opaque Results :
Well, the 2 opaque tubs grew out potent albeit very small yet consistent sized fruits. Had a decent [bac dump] pinset but the dry yield was around 1.75oz each]
This is the only pic i have from the opaque/oats/gt run. This was taken about 2-3 days harvest.

I have jumped back to millet and will try to hone in my oat prep but for now im going to stick with millet. Absolutely love millet. Dont know what i was thinking TBH. New cleaner spawn otw!!
Anyways .... Back to the Unmodd :
While i was waiting for the aqua blue unmods to arrive i got a little crazy and decided to do 8x .02 micron 5qt spawn bags from oats. 4 bags per PC cycle. Ran 2 hours at 16.5psi [thats where my stove likes to hold it without fluncuation]
I then inoculated all 8 bags with LC#2 which i also previously tested 2 days prior on just agar. That plate is still going clean on the shelf to this day.
These bags started colonizing fairly quickly however i made 2 mistakes.
#1 i should have made/used 5-10% drier oats [forgot the bag rule]
#2 i left for 2 days and then the weather spiked and so sat on a shelf in a 80f-81f room because the AC was set to control the climate.
I ended up throwing out 1 bag and noticing creamy bacteria and moisture on a couple others that were to the fully colonized party.
TLDR So, this leads me to my actual reason for posting.
I knew the spawn bags were bacterialy compromised and decided to roll them dice. So over the course of a week i spawned the bags to the unmods.
Colonisation went as intended, atypical.. obvious bac spawn is obvious. Any moisture on the surface sinks into the sub like its quicksand.
Dealt with having the surface dry out so rapidly due to having a sub-optimal surface of myc along with the learning curve of balancing my room conditions and a flipped lid unmoddified. [Dry dry dry]
Ended up trying to apply a band-aid and late cased with coir/verm on some, coir only sprinkled on others etc.
Kept lids gasket down on some to let build humidity [lid flipped for me does not work in current conditions prior to pinning]
Well im getting pins in all the tubs and they are pretty consistent across all 5.
Issue is, they are growing sloooooow, theyre fat and dense too.
I think i noticed pins on the 29th so 5th day and this is what it looks like on the leading tub

Do you think its genetics how they're growing or oversaturated sub from misting the surface for knots? [It dried so quickly]
They seem to be growing soooo slowly. [Or am i crazy having false memories of faster growing mushrooms?]
The tubs feel heavy but like i bottom watered one and about 30 mins later i went to pour it off and the sub sucked it all up.
I used a syringe to inject water near clusters on others and the sub was dense and took firm presssure to move the plunger. On the opposite side it felt more loose and took light pressure.
Ive been misting and keeping the lids off all day.
The final tub is looking relatively perfect and is showing knots.
Ive done a 6th with millet...7 and 8 soon. Wash and redo all 8 with millet and try these unmods again.
Will share results soon.
Thanks for chiming in!

same, but 25% humidity. i keep proper surface moisture and they do pretty well.
right now its 60F and i'm on the east coast
i've noticed slower growth and denser fruits during cold spells, not always, but it may just be genetics. running PESA, RW, CR

I spray the surface from above and the moisture soaks right into the sub.
Room right now is warm and humid but man they grow so slow. Affraid the caps will open and get these midgitos
